3 out of 4 in Pittsburgh. Should have swept them, but that's still good. Bullpen looked great today which was good to see, considering how inconsistent it has been this year.

Maybe it's just me sheltering myself from the rest of the league (observationally speaking), but are there any other teams other than the Giants who have not yet played outside of their respective divisions?

I agree with David Wells. He said pretty much every pitcher does something when its cold to get a better grip. Pineda was an idiot but I believe a lot of pitchers use something when its cold and dry out.

And hitters use pine tar on their bats as well for better grip.

The difference is they're allowed to. George Brett got in trouble for having too much. That's why you couldn't see the logo on Vlad Guerrero's batting helmet.

In other news, Ivan Nova is done for the year thanks to the war on pitchers, he's getting Tommy John's.

Nova's injury makes for an interesting strategy in the Bronx. Both Tanaka and Pineda have shown they are capable of pitching up in the rotation, so New York will need a number five starter. I'd assume they go in-house to Nuno, but as the trade deadline nears, assuming they are in contention, we could see them target someone.

The official scorer is very friendly in Boston tonight. Jeter and Gardner both receiving gifts tonight.

Yep. Boston has been very sloppy. A couple errors and passed balls leading to a 6-0 Yankee lead. Still early though.

                    MLB official scorers are ridiculous.

Boston has five errors and there could have been more called.

I go and check on the Dodger game to see if Kemp is in the lineup, knowing full well he probably wont be, and as I suspected hes sitting on the bench. I know hes been struggling but Ethier isnt hitting any better and then they ignore the fact that Kemp is a lifetime 0.400 hitter off Kyle Kendricks, the Phillies starter tonight. Take a look at Kemp's stats and this is now the second time in a row hes been benched off a 2/4 game the night before. Again, I know hes been struggling, but its difficult to get your timing back when youre sitting on the bench so often and the guy theyre replacing you with isnt doing any better with the bat anyways. With that said, whats the general consensus on Mattingly as a manager around here? Im curious to hear some feedback.

Mike Carp is pitching for Boston now. He's throwing 66.

Edit: Carp walked five batters and gave up one run on no hits. However he was getting a lot of calls from the ump, not that I care at this point.

Personally, i like Kemp and always thought he should be starting every day no matter what and trade Ethier since you have so many outfielders but since crawford is so injury prone you gotta keep him...tough call

Not a Dodger fan myself, and I don't keep up with them much, but a guy I coach with is a huge Dodger fan and loves Mattingly. He believes he has a great knack for the game and understands situations very well. Not sure of his thoughts on lineup construction or his relationship with his players (though I think we all know he hates Puig). I can't imagine it's easy coaching a team like that, though.
