    Re: Sheets On Fire

How many more prospects do they need?By 2006 they'll have Fiedler,Hardy and weeks in the everyday lineup to go along with Jenkins, Podsednik and maybe Overbay, althought if Fiedler is in the lineup at 1st then Lyle would have to be traded. My point is that you won't get A level prospects for sheets and the Crew are really close to contending. They should keep him and build their staff around him.

<hr /></blockquote><font class="post">Exactly. Too many of these small market teams are suckers for teams like the Yankees and their deals where they give the Yankees a good player, and in return get good prospects. The problem is that they lose their established, proven player for 2 or 3 younger guys who are projected to be great, but most never turn out as they are projected. It's very sad to see the Yankees and other big market teams rob smaller teams of the player they have built around and in return give them 2 or 3 guys who could be good, IMO this is why teams like the Tigers were in such losing skids for so many years. They had Weaver, an established pitcher, a guy they should build around, but instead dealt him for 3 guys who might be in the majors 2 or 3 years from then, I just dont get it.

They better not trade him away. We have enough prospects the way it is.

                        C - Lou Palminaso
                        1B - Prince Fielder
                        2B - Rickie Weeks
                        SS - JJ Hardy
                        LF - Brad Nelson
CF - Tony Gwynn Jr./Dave Krynzel
                        RF - Cody Hart

All of them are supposed to be big league starters within the next three or four years. Parra, Hendrickson, Jones, Ford, De La Rosa...just to name a few of what are supposed to be solid pitchers in our farm system.

I mean, in 2006 half the team may be rookies(or at least in their first three years, which if I'm correct means they can be signed at the league minimum). That should leave plenty of room to re-sign Sheets. We gotta have someone to build around.
