If Boston gets a guy like Craig, my guess is they're eating a lot of Peavy's salary.

I mean it's only ~ $6.5 Mil for the rest of this season. Even if they ate a bunch of that, trading a bat that has been a staple in our lineup for a guy who will be our #5 starter would be unwise IMO. Especially since the problem the Cards' have had so far have been offensively.

Yes, Craig has been bad this year (I've been at the forefront of his bashing), but it's not like he's a free agent and we want to get something for him before he leaves. The guy signed a 5 year $31 Mil contract before last year. Trading him would be the ultimate sell-low, and that just isn't Mo's forte.

If Craig is indeed involved, I expect to get something along with Peavy.

I would love to see the Reds make a move for a bat (especially with Votto's dodgy knee/quad) or another arm for the bullpen...but then with Uncle Walt coming out and saying "Jack Hannahan is coming back soon" I just know we won't make a single move.

          So frustrating.

Conflicted when it comes to Craig.

On one hand, why would the Cardinals trade him? He's under contract through 2017 with a team option for '18. He has a proven track record and is only 29 years old.

On the other hand, his power has been gone for 2 years. That's no slump.

I read that they wanted Valbuena in the Samardzija + Hammel deal and couldn't get it worked out.

Not saying that talks can't start back up again, but it would have made more sense to just do it all together.

@ KMac that is correct, but they have begun talking again about Valbuena.

Jon Morosi is reporting that the Red Sox and Cards are active in talks about Peavy. The Atlanta Braves have also jumped in on Peavy as well.

Guarantee that we're asking way too much for Valbuena because we have him under control through 2016.

I'd take a pack of bubblegum for Darwin Barney though

James Russell and Wesley Wright are also guys that I see moving soon. Not exactly to the A's, but in general.

Derrick Goold saying the Cardinals are looking at more offensive help than Peavy atm. Makes sense as Kelly is coming back on Friday.

Norris is a T20 or even T10 prospect right now. those prospect rankings aren't updated vividly.

Baseball America has Russell at #15.
huh?? Russell was ranked anywhere from 3 to 11. Norris was left off most Top 100 lists preseason 2014. Maybe he's worked his way up, but T10 is laughable for Norris. We see lots of Blue Jays homerism on these boards, but I least expect it from a Red Sox backer!

By the way, the Blue Jays have a strong system in depth, not necessarily in top end talent. Stroman is legit, but after him, there are lots and lots of B specs...no real A's imo.

Cole Hamel's no-trade clause allows him to block a trade to 20 teams. The 9 he can be traded too freely are LAA, LAD, SD, WAS, NYY, STL, ATL, BOS, TEX

Out of that, only 6 (maybe 7) can afford him.
