What happened to Jason Giambi?
Watching Giambi at Yankee Stadium today, I'm pretty surprised at how Jason Giambi has fallen apart. Here's a career .300 hitter, who carried his success to the Yankees in 2002. Last year he was merely a power hitter, hitting for a bad average and striking out, and he was awful in the playoffs besides his 2 homer game. Yankee Fans blamed last year on an injury, but Giambi is playing worse this year then last. Giambi was atrocious in today's game, going 0-4, killing every Yankee rally by leaving men on base, and making an awful play at first by being afraid of Jason "Slow" Phillips scoring from third, and not pursing Jose Reyes in a run down after he was picked off. Giambi should never be playing first base, but he hasn't even produced as a hitter this year. It was clear Yankee fans were frustrated with Giambi's pathetic performance. Meanwhile, Tino Martinez is outproducing Giambi offensively nad is a much better defensively.Tags: None -
Re: What happened to Jason Giambi?
He has battled injuries. Last year he could not hit the high pitch at all because of them. He did seem to be getting hot before he went on the DL this year. I'd expect him to pick it up in the 2nd half, but I don't think he'll ever be as good as he was in Oakland. He seems like a pretty fragile guy mentally, with the combinations of the pressure of New York, and the Balco investigations, I don't think he's really in it. His defense has been worse than ever. He used to be able to at least scoop the ball ok, now he is a complete liability at first.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: What happened to Jason Giambi?
Yeah, I remember reading somewhere how he was injured all last year, and expected to have a monster year this year. If he is still hurt, or just keeps getting hurt it doesn't matter. He's either injury prone, or slumping BIG TIME.Comment

Re: What happened to Jason Giambi?
Giambi is not the first person to either, come to New York or start off in NY and have terrible slumps but have good success elsewhere. I dont think he is totally in it either and in NY that will get to you. First you have a bad game, then a bad series, then a bad week and all the while the media is swarming. However, this lineup is not going to have to be held up by 1 person. We need pitching, another starter in case El Duque cant go and a lefty from the pen. Heredia does not give me the same good feeling that Stanton gave me.S.O.S Crew
