Mets v. Phils and it actually means something.

It's early July, but this series could do damage to the Mets morale or could put them in un thought about territory.

    The matchup:

    vs.

Glavine was selected to the all-star team tonight and Abbott is making his 5th major league start (which I think is always dangerous to the opposition.)

Mets have better starting pitching plain and simple. If you look at schedule, especially recently, Mets have had a tougher schedule. I really think the Mets can take 3 out of 4 here.

To be honest, this series will probably be split, with the chance that the Phillies will take 3 out of 4. I think the Mets are playing over their heads right now, and the Phillies have more talent. Starting pitching wise, I'd give a slight nod to the Mets. Here are the matchups for the series

                            1. Glavine vs. Abbott (Glavine, easily)
                            2. Leiter vs. Wolf (Wolf , slightly)
                            3. Trachel vs. Myers (Trachel slightly, Myers is way to inconsistant)
                            4. Ginter Vs. Millwood (Millwood, its a toss up because they are at home).

The Phillies have the better overall bullpen, with Wagner coming out in the 9th and a pretty respectable setup tandum in Cormier and Worrell. Madson is doing great as the long man/7th inning guy. And Hernandez has pitched well his last few outings and can come in the 6th.

Lets go with the Position battles:

                            C. Philips vs. Lieberthal (Lieberthal, Slightly)
1B. Piazza vs. Thome (Thome, Slightly)
2B. Reyes vs. Palanco/Utley (Palanco, Reyes is hitting terribly)
SS. Rollins vs. Matsui (Rollins has been hot since moving to leadoff)
3B. Wigginton vs. Bell (Toss up)
LF. Floyd vs. Burrell (I'll give the slight edge to Floyd)
CF. Cameron vs. Michaels (Cameron's great with the glove, but his bat is pathetic, I'll go with Michaels)
RF. Hidalgo vs. Abreu (Not even close, Abreu, Even though Hidalgo has been hot since the trade)

Mets have a solid pen, but alot of retreds out that that will eventually catch up to them (Comon, Ricky Bottallaco? Franco?!!?!?).

All in all, the Mets probably throw out the better starting pitching staff, but the Phillies I believe have the better pen along with starting 8.
