    Astros talk

Jeff Bagwell will you please start hitting the ball. Change your stance, try to go to the opposite field, take more controlled swings, anything. I was so excited about the Astros season this year and I can't believe where we are now. We are to the point where Brandon Duckworth is starting games for us. Pettite has been hurt all year and Miller is hurt again because he has the poorest mechanics of any pitcher I have ever seen. Two of our aquisitions, Clemens and Beltran have been lights out and even Craig Biggio is having a good year. Our bullpen is horrible. There have been so many pitchers shuffled between the minors and the majors that I am losing track.

With all that I am still optomistic. We are only a few games back off the wild card so we still have a chance. Any Houston people or anyone else have any thoughts. Who would like to see Berkman get a little time at first and Lane in the outfield to give bagwell a rest.?

I feel you jake. It's just tough being an Astro fan right now. At least Lidge has been a bright spot. I still think they will get this thing turned around. However, catching the Cardinals would seem to be out of the question as of now seeing as how we are 9 GAMES BACK!!!! Guess we'll have to shoot for the wildcard, and that may be even tougher to get than catching St. Louis. So much promise, so little to show for it.

Bagwell will never be able to hit the way he used to because of an arthritic shoulder condition. As for the rest of the Astros, if Andy Pettitte can stay healthy for the rest of the season and when Wade Miller comes off the D.L. the Astros will have one of the best Starting staff's in the N.L., so the is reason to be optimistic for the Astros to be able to make a run, but, if the Astros are out of the race by august 1st then expect to start seeing some changes, changes that will likely start with the firing of Jimmy Williams.

Things are definitely grim, but the bright spot is that as abysmal as the team's performance has been, they are still over .500 and in the hunt. Things can turn around quickly, and with the balanced schedule format, there will be opportuinty to gain ground quickly.

The Stros need some luck. Right now, they are snake bitten, and I don't think you can point to any particular thing. Currently, they don't hit and leave an enormus amount of men on base. When they do hit, they don't pitch well. It seems as if they cannot get in synch.

Things would certainly seem likely to improve, however. All teams slump, and hopefully the Astros can get over theirs, and get intop peak form late in the season when it counts the most.

They have too much talent to be playing this way. I am not sure, however, that Jimy Williams will be around to see the end of the season if things don't improve.

Bagwell says his shoulder doesn't affect his hitting at all. Whether that is true or not, who knows. If anybody watched the game last night, Craig Biggio is so weak in left field that he let Robin Ventura , possibly the slowest baseball player ever, score on him twice. How about bringing biggio back to second and kent to first. And now Clemens is saying that he would accept a trade to a contender.
