Re: best team for next year
... but the phillies has alot of young guys this year, and it didn't help them much. They have a good core group of players, and their starters have alot o' promise, but I would probably put them in 3rd place in their division next season.
I'm worried that my Braves might be finishing behind them... if we lose Maddux and Glavine, then there's 25-30 games already. Betemit should move up to fill the SS slot with Furcal moving to 2B, possibly Giles or a kid from AAA at 3B.
Watch out for Oakland. They have the best starting pitching in the league, and 2 or 3 of the best hitters. I think they are going to go on a run like Atlanta started 11 years ago... if they can stay together.Comment

Re: best team for next year
I don't see the philies being any good. They were awful this year and now they don't have Rolen. I really don't see any of the crappy teams being good next year. Maybe Boston will put it together. What is amazing is the Angles have the same team from a year ago, and they were awful last year. This year they are going for the best record in baseball !
I think this my be the last hurrah for the Braves. After this year, I see them letting some big names go and start rebuilding. They have one of the best farm systems in the league, so they might have more young guys next year.My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: best team for next year
I'm shedding a tear, since this could be the last season we see Maddux and/or Glavine in a Braves uniWho else is a FA for us????
Anyway, the Yankees are still in my mind the team to beat and the best.....its hard NOT to see them the same next year.
But if we're talking about teams not in the hunt for the playoffs this year, I'd say the Astros. (well, theyre like 6 games out, so theyre in the hunt, oh well, you know what I mean).
They still have the awesome offense, plus great, YOUNG pitching. Miller, Oswalt, Hernandez, Wagner, Berkman, Bagwell, Biggio, plus the little guys.Comment

Re: best team for next year
I'd have to agree with the phillies. If they wouldnt have gotten off to such a poor start this year they'd be 5-10 games over .500 now. I'm one that thinks the departure of Rolen will actually help them. No more drama in the clubhouse. But for them to win the division they need to get as much or more from their pitching, witch is possible. Brett Myers is gonna be amazing and Marlon Byrd will give them another strong bat. Hopefully their owners can cough up some cash and pull in a couple of free agents this winter and make things interesting next year.Comment

Re: best team for next year
i wish the astros offense were awesome but they are not. i dont think we have anyone batting over 300. the pitching staff is great but defensively we have too many first basemen on our team (berkman, ward, bagwell). we need someone to play in centerfield and a leadoff hitter. berkman is ok in left or right but we need to get him out of center. hidalgo is making a lot of money to do jack. we have nobody at 3rd base, short stop, and catcher. but i think with the great young pitching, miller, oswalt, munro, and sarloos(the next maddux), we will be ok. the bullpen is solid as well.Comment

Re: best team for next year
I think Remlinger is a FA as well, probably most of the older guys (Hammond, J. Franco, Holmes, etc.) only signed one-year contracts. Lopez has a player option I believe.Comment

Re: best team for next year
baseball has so many FA's and trades it is hard to gauge until the start of next year.
Though I imagine the Yankees will still be at the top. Oakland has their young pitchers locked up for the next few years. And the Red Sox will over pay for a poor attittude all stats player and finish 2nd in the AL East.Comment
