    So long Johnny O

I"m not a Mariners fan but this is a pretty sad day nonetheless as I always like to keep up with Blue Jays alumni. Aparently the M's will be cutting John Olerud. It's not that surprising since his decline was starting to show last season but I wonder why he declined a trade to the Giants for JT Snow. Nonetheless I hope Olerud catches on with another team.

    Yahoo!

Kind of surprised they'd just cut him. But he supposedly turned down a trade to San Francisco, so he didn't leave them much choice.

He's one of my favorite players of the last 15 years, and probably one of the most underrated over that time. He's a fairly unassuming guy, but take a look at his career numbers. They're more impressive than you might think.

I'm sure several teams will be interested in him, hopefully the Braves will be one of them. I know he's had a tough year, but I'd take a chance on him if I were a GM. What is he, about 35? That's not ancient, he could still have something left.

Olerud will get signed by another team, i think his bad offense comes from playing on the worst team he has played for, the Giants may still be a possibility, the Dodgers are looking for a 1B and are not sure if they can make the deal for Carlos Delgado, Boston is said to be in the market for another hitter and if Frank Thomas needs to have ankle surgery, which would end his season, then the White Sox also could be a possiblity.

This is what you can expect to start seeing in Seattle, Bavasi did the same thing with the Angels, next season you will see him sign a bunch of washed up free agents, the team will start to lose, then he will start releasing them.

This will probably help make Jamie Moyer's decision on whether to stay or ask for a trade a little easier. The question is how long before we hear Edgar Martinez mentioned in trade rumors?.
