    After the trade deadline...

I am a huge baseball nut and follow the game religously. I pretty much know all aspects of the game except for something I haven't understood but pondered for many years.

After the trade deadline... players must clear waivers before they can be traded. Right? But can't they be pulled back if another team claims them? If that is so.... the player will eventually always clear waivers if he keeps getting pulled back every time another team claims him.

I'm probably 100% on the wrong track so someone please explain how this works.

Basically, when a player is put on waivers, the rights to him goes backwards through the standings in terms of "first dibs." If one of those teams claim him then the team that put him on waivers can either take him off waivers or give the rights to him to that claiming team. Now if that player goes through all the teams and no one claims him, he can be traded.

I'm pretty sure thats how it works.
