What happened to Brandon Phillips?

I remember when the Expos traded him for Colon, many were saying Phillips was the best prospect in the game and was going to be franchise player?

I don't think he's even in the majors anymore.

He started the season @ 2B for the Tribe last year and was sent down around the All-Star break. He played very good defense but didn't hit anything. I think he was batting around .210 when he was sent down and only did worse in AAA (Bisons) to close the season.

This year, however, he's showing patience at the plate. He has a 39/30 K/BB ratio and is hitting .308, 5HR, 37RBI so far this year. He should be starting at either 2B or SS next year for Cleveland, depending on what they do with Jhonny Peralta. He's still only 23 and Peralta is 22 so the Tribe is looking to be good for a while (Jhonny is hitting .329, 10HR, 63RBI @ AAA).

EDIT: Don't forget we also got Cliff Lee (10-1 this year) and Grady Sizemore (our best prospect) for Colon, too.

I'm eager to see Phillips get another shot. He's phyiscally gifted and has some swagger. Hopefully in his next go around he realizes he's not there to hit HRs and stops trying to pull everything.

With the way Ron Belliard has played for the Indians this season, Phillips may have to wait until next year to get another shot with the big club.
