Mike Francesa reported that there are plans for a 750 million new Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, with old Yankee Stadium being torn down.

    NOOO!!!

    Why?????

We're only selling out pretty much every big game, and all the weekend games. The attendance is better than ever.

Why would they want to do this??

I've seen it before... it's not so grand looking. It's supposed to have the same dimensions as the old Yankee Stadium, with a retractible roof, and some of the classical things from the old Yankee Stadium I believe.

This will never happen in my opinion. Oh the stadium will be built but Old Yankee Stadium will never be torn down. The city of New York will declare it a historic landmark before the wrecking ball would come.

Besides this is not for the next 7 yrs or so.

                    Re: New Yankee Stadium?

From the New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/30/sports...UwFl4rgtL0gfbqA

"The new, slightly smaller ballpark, with about 50,000 seats and 50 luxury boxes, would be built in Macombs Dam Park, just to the north of the existing stadium, an American sports shrine."

Woohoo! Less seats for the real fans, more for the millionares wearing suits and talking on the phone all game.

"The existing stadium, which opened in 1923 and has been the site of 33 World Series, would not be demolished, at least not most of it. It would be converted, possibly, to a multilevel parking garage with a soccer field on top, while retaining the ball field and the most recognizable elements of the structure."

A parking garage and a soccer field.

"The team also saved money from an earlier proposal by eliminating a retractable roof, a feature that could cost $200 million."

                    But we still get rainouts.

It will probably be pretty nice, and hopefully they'll model it after Yankee Stadium, or even make it look more like the old stadium. But with attendance so high, I don't think a new stadium is needed yet.

On that note, there was small article in the Red Eye this morning about future plans with Wrigley field. A sketch drawing they had picutred the new Wrigley surrounded by skyscrapers and other buildings that would have roof top seating.

In my opinion, the new Yankee Stadium, Wrigley Field, and Fenway Park stadiums that I've seen look much worse than their current stadiums, that's just my thought though.
