I was out eating with my brother last night in the Cubs sorry effort against San Diego and Sammy came to the plate...he was up 1-0 in the count and I turned to my brother and said, "$5 says he strikes out", he thought about it and said, "how about dinner". My reply, "fine with me". Sure enough Sosa came roaring back with three tree chopping cuts to strike out...Thanks Sammy for the free meal!!!
Sammy has struck out over 25% of the time this year...that also takes into account his at bats where he drew a walk. He's had 354 TOTAL at bats this year (with walks included) and he's struck out 90 times! That's 25.4%...my GOD is this guy overrated. I'm a huge advocate of playing baseball by the book, and not taking a lot of unneccessary risks...don't walk batters, make them hit it, don't strike out, put the pressure on the defense. Strikouts are SO useless. There's nothing more worthless than a strikeout in baseball and Sammy is the king! Everyone's fallen in love with the long ball but I'm more concerned about the wild card race and the Cubs are playing like total SH!T right now! They've lost 4 out of the last 5 and 5 out of the last 7. Pathetic! And Sosa has not helped the situation...I'd love to see a new right fielder next year and I don't care who!
And don't tell me about how without Sosa the Cubs lose and yada yada yada. I know he was out earlier this year and they lost some games but they had 8 other players on the DL at the same time including Wood, Remlinger and a boatload of others. Well, I feel a little better now that I vented. I just want to see the Cubs win SO bad like every other fan does but watching so many Cubs games this year has made me question Sosa's status as an all-star.
