Was that in reference to Maddux's season numbers that I posted? If so, you're crazy man. Not many pitchers out there can keep their ERA and walks so low while only losing twice... twice! I'll take those numbers any day of the week.

Keep in mind Maddux's ERA against the league average was incredible, not that Bob Gibson's 1.12 wasn't but the 60's were a pitchers era, the average ERA was lower than it was in Maddux era.

the Ruth season i posted is clearly the best so far, although i think it may be a tie with Bonds from last year.

Ruth in 1921 had 80 Strike outs that was bad enough to be 2nd in the AL

Pitching may win championships but it is hard to make a convincing argument for a guy who only plays in 35-40 games. I love Maddux, but I would rather have Ruth or Williams in there day or Bonds in the last couple of years.

I dunno... you can be the greatest hitter in the world, hit 4 homeruns a game, but without a good supporting staff or teammates, you will probably lose alot of games. Just look at ARod this season.

A starting pitcher, though, can shut down a team practically all by himself. Guys like Johnson and Schilling, who throw 15 or 16 strikeouts.... and you have that going for your team once every 5 days.

I guess I am just a true Braves fan built with the Braves philosophy of pitching&gt;offense.

I don't disagree that pitching is important, but a guy like Ruth can help you win a game almost every day. Maddux can't do that.

True... and even though it isn't on topic... I gotta say that I would rather have the Braves' pitching staff than Barry Bonds, or Babe Ruth. A pitching staff doesn't equal one player's single season, but they are a unit as a whole, so that's what I'm going with.

I just confused myself... gonna go watch the rest of the game now.
