in baseball there is not really much you can do to carry your team if your a batter. Its pretty indivudial, like you can't make the players around you better.

Originally posted by YankeePride_YPThe reason Alex Rodriguez won the award last year is because his numbers were clearly better than anyone else (in terms of power numbers).
If you go by power numbers than Delgado should have won the award (or at least split it with A-Rod)
Last season:
A-Rod: 181 hits/30 Doubles/47 HR's/118 RBI's/.298 BA/.396 OBP/.600 SLB/.996 OPS
Delgado: 172 hits/38 Doubles/42 HR's/145 RBI's/.302 BA/.426 OBP/ .593 SLG/1.019 OPS
Delgado also had 37 fewer at bats.
If you go by the team aspect the Jays won 15 more games last season too.
The reason A-Rod won was because he played Gold Glove defence on a glamour defensive position and Delgado badly tailed off on the 2nd half when compared to his freakish 1st half numbers.
The definition of MVP still isn't clearly defined.
Does it go to the best player in the league regardless of team record or does it go to the most valuable player ie. if you remove that player from the team, then they wouldn't be nearly as good.
You would think it would be the later yet A-Rod won last season even when his team stunk.
All I know is that Bonds is the runaway MVP leader in the NL, You removed Bonds from the Giants and they're not even a .500 team.Comment

Re: Ichiro for MVP?
Hey, you guys misunderstood me.
I'm not saying that Alex Rodriguez deserved the MVP award. I'm not even saying that I agree with the voting system.
I'm just explaining my opinion as to why I think Alex Rodriguez won the award.
And I'm only making that judgement based on the silly decisions to pick Ichiro and Tejada the years before."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
