Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread

Gammons interviewed Beane today, "...trading Gray is not something I think we could do. We have to put a representative product on the field, and continue to dream we get a ballpark."

Scared to find out what exactly he thinks is a representative product. Representative of the Coliseum sewage? I hope not.

Isn't this the same Billy Beane saying he wasn't going to trade Josh Donaldson the last couple years?

He actually used the word untouchable for JD so trading Gray is a real possibility. "Cannot see us trading" in no way equals "he won't be traded".

I agree that his arm is probably only good for another year or two.

Kind of sad to see such a hyped prospect flame out early.
He's going where nearly every other pitcher with his mechanics has gone. The "inverted W" or "scapula loading" or whatever...some suggest this is the issue...if so, it would have happened regardless of organization or manager.

If i'm an A's fan and Gray is traded i'd lose my mind. It's gotta be tough to be a fan of a team that goes this much turnover. Tampa Bay at least has the right idea in how to run a small market team whereas it seems Beane pulls the trigger too early at times.

Man, when I saw the news on the MLB-N ticker I was kinda hoping he was related to the old time manager of the same name.

The A's have been a secret crush of mine for a few years now.
While I was glad to see JD come to the Jays (have to feed my Canadian patriotism), I was really bummed out as an A's fan.

I really hope they don't deal Gray and I'm praying they start developing more stars and can return to a postseason contender.

The AL West is ridiculous now. They'll be easy fodder for their fellow divisional rivals if they don't find a way to rebuild quickly.

(The Wife and I are thinking about taking a trip to Oakland to catch a game this Summer. I hope we can make that a reality).

I've lost it before but being an A's fan you get it back pretty quick. It's not easy but moving on fast is a trait a A's fan must develop. After the trading spree and playoff exit if '14, the JD trade and during this failed season I saw increased number of comments from fans saying they're done and they're going to go be Giants fans from now on. That to me is just a weak minded bandwagon jumper. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, we didn't want you in Oakland anyway.

If Gray's traded the rational part of me immediately says he is at his peak value right now more than he has ever been in his very very short career. Beane killed the farm trying to make that playoff run in '14 we don't have any prospects that will be making an impact soon so why hang on to somebody that by himself isn't going to get them out of last place in 2016. Beane has always tried to be a little bit ahead of the curve and I think you're right. I think this combined with his playoff failures are causing him to pull the trigger too fast the last couple years.

I've been through this phase so many times though it doesn't even bother me anymore. It'd be immensely more difficult if they didn't cobble together a legit playoff team couple years of every decade or so.

I feel like the perpetual state of rebuild is protest until they get a new stadium. Beane just keeps pushing back the window of contention.

That's a pretty dangerous game to play though. If you don't show any kind of progress as a team and can be marketable then how the heck do you convince local government to throw money at them to build a stadium.

Most teams that have gotten new stadia over the last decade and a half have either shown signs of becoming a contending team on the MLB level or are just ready to unleash the high end prospects onto the MLB level in order to succeed. The greatest example of that would be the Indians in the mid '90s.

Well they were incredible for many many years and it didn't really get them anywhere so I guess the next thing to try is public pressure. It's not a Marlins situation here, the A's were legit contenders most years for a while.

Very Prior like in the way he loads the baseball. Saw this coming from year 1. Was only a matter of time.

The A's aren't asking local government to finance a new stadium though. The ownership group has said they'd privately fund it.

                                Well...there is Miami.

I think Oakland needs a stadium but if the Raiders can't get one, and they're certainly more profitable to the city than the A's, I see no hope for the A's other than doing what the Raiders are trying to do - move out of the city.
