From what I just read (can't link it because it's an Insider article), the Red Sox might be preparing to make the biggest offer to Price, similar to how New York got C.C. by offering 60mil more than anyone else.

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
I posted about that within the last few days. But I had no idea who reported it. I heard about it on a Boston radio show. And I think they also said they may do the same with Greinke if it doesn't work with Price.Comment

The whole playoff scene with David Price would lower the price for me if I were a GM. He was quite woeful.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

The A's have re-aquired Jed Lowrie from the stros. Why? Idk. Thought we had enough infielders already. I hope they're not giving up on Semien already.
Maybe sell high in Valencia?
Lawrie and Lowrie on the same infield though? Good luck broadcasters.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Speaking of Semien...
Do they believe Ron Washington has cured his ills? Guy only "seven" errors in the 2nd half compared to 28 in the first.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
It's hard to argue with those before Wash after Wash numbers Speedy.
I could see a visible change in him over the season. He slowed down and stopped rushing throws. At the beginning of the season a lot of times he would receive the ball and throw it immediately max effort even if the base runner wasn't even halfway down the line. At the end of the season you could tell he was getting his feet right underneath with his momentum going towards 1st before he would throw in a controlled effort. Almost painfully slow sometimes to the point I thought he wasn't going to beat the runner.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Regarding the Red Sox:
Apparently Dave Dombrowski isn't learning from the mistakes of the Yankees if he's willing to blow all that money on either Price or Grienke. Sure, it may work out for the first 3 years but the back end is going to be brutal.
Oakland:
I bet they trade off some of that infield depth for youthful pitching or hell, maybe they try and get an impactful bat of some kind.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Dave Dombrowski was hired for that very reason, throw loads of cash at free agents. Philosophy has changed within the organization on paying for pitching.Comment

It's a gamble worth taking if ownership is fully on board with it. I know ownership has been gun shy about giving big money long term deals to guys 31 and over. If the Red Sox don't see positive results from the Dombrowski hire early on I can see them reverting back to some of their old policies in 5 years.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
