Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
I'm curious. What did people think Price was going to sign for? Less than Scherzer?
And to the Blue Jay fans who think this is a massive overpay on Boston's part: you do realize that Toronto's championship window is very small, don't you? The Jays are built to win right now, not 3-5 years from now. This is not the time for fiscal prudence on Toronto's part.

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
Maybe the player wants it in his contract. He knows he has pitched of late and it's fantastic and wants to take a little risk and if it doesn't pan out like he wants then he just doesn't opt out and takes the full 7 years and 217 million. But if he continues to pitch at high level, especially in that third year he opts out and gets himself one last 5-6 year contract ala Zack Greinke this offseason.
Well of course he wants it, there is no risk, its 100% in favor of the player. Doesn't mean you have to give it to him.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
Jays fans might think so. Fiscally, it depends on how much extra dough that a WS win would bring in over the course of 7 years. Like it or not, the key offensive components have a finite window. Having not seen my team win a WS in my lifetime, I'm all for the push all in while you can.Comment

After we missed out on Beachy and Medlen last season, Alvarez would be a nice upside play.Comment

Re: 2015 MLB Hot Stove thread
Which is great, except AA's moves over the last couple seasons have already seen to that. Unless by "sustainable success", you mean a string of 80-win, 3rd place finishes; if that's the case, then you may well get your wish. If on the other hand, you think Shapiro is going to magically transform Toronto into a player development factory a la the Giants and Cardinals, I wish you the best of luck. I'll be cheering for the Jays in 2037.Originally posted by Thrash13Dr. Jones was right in stating that.
