It's not "good" that's why maybe there might be a trade in the offing during the Winter Meetings or the Jays can keep themselves above water until the deadline and something happens then but at the same time it's not as bad as it seems. There's a huge "if" in this equation in that a LOT of people are banking on Stroman having a breakout year to the point that he has close to, or definitely ace stuff.

And to the Blue Jay fans who think this is a massive overpay on Boston's part: you do realize that Toronto's championship window is very small, don't you? The Jays are built to win right now, not 3-5 years from now. This is not the time for fiscal prudence on Toronto's part.
The point is not to build a contender for a window. The goal is sustainable success, and Price impedes that.

But if he continues to pitch at high level, especially in that third year he opts out and gets himself one last 5-6 year contract ala Zack Greinke this offseason.

Well of course he wants it, there is no risk, its 100% in favor of the player. Doesn't mean you have to give it to him.

MLB needs more jersey variations that aren't red or blue. Pads going in the right direction.

Jays fans might think so. Fiscally, it depends on how much extra dough that a WS win would bring in over the course of 7 years. Like it or not, the key offensive components have a finite window. Having not seen my team win a WS in my lifetime, I'm all for the push all in while you can.

Too bad they got rid of the wrong former Atlanta Brave (Kimbrel and not BJ).

Speaking of Upton...I see rumors of Justin in SF but I feel in my gut he'll be in BAL.

                    Marlins will non-tender Henderson Alvarez.

                    Royals non-tender Greg Holland.

                    Angels non-tender Cesar Ramos.

I would love for the Red Sox to sign Holland to a 2 year deal.

I don't think Holland is the right fit in Boston. They already have Kimbrel and somebody will give Holland decent money.

After we missed out on Beachy and Medlen last season, Alvarez would be a nice upside play.

Why Minor was just non tendered and he has the same shoulder issue as Alvarez?

Which is great, except AA's moves over the last couple seasons have already seen to that. Unless by "sustainable success", you mean a string of 80-win, 3rd place finishes; if that's the case, then you may well get your wish. If on the other hand, you think Shapiro is going to magically transform Toronto into a player development factory a la the Giants and Cardinals, I wish you the best of luck. I'll be cheering for the Jays in 2037.
