I think the idea of professionalism is overrated to the extent that players can't celebrate an accomplishment. I think it's asinine to expect players to play with intensity and commitment to their team, and then marginalize and ostracize them when they show emotion. Professional-level or not, home runs are worth celebrating.

And Dyson's comments of "respect for the game" is hypocritical when he instigated a lot of the confrontations because he gave up the home run. It's especially hypocritical for pitchers to police the game when they themselves are virtually untouchable.

Celebrate as much as you want, it doesn't bother me one bit. But that being said, don't aim it at the other team, that's crossing the line and lacks class. As long as you aren't trying to mock the opposition or show them up, then go nuts.

As a pitcher, I was always far more annoyed that they'd hit a homer than I was about any celebrating they did. Always seemed strange to me that that wasn't the case in the MLB

Actually, now what I'd like to see is that after the HR, when the player is just about to get to home plate, jump up, grab your crotch and land on the plate with both feet or a superhero landing, while you continue to grab your crotch.

Bat flips should be like all other things concerning baseball right now... the less we talk about it, the less of a problem it will be.

Just don't bring it up, for better or worse. They can bat flip and an announcer can go as far to say "He flipped his bat like he knew it was gone," and that's it. End-o-story. Don't have a 15-minute segment about it on MLB Tonight and don't talk about it on the radio the next day about how a team will retaliate. Just let it be, and it'll be fine. It's not really that big of a deal.

I think the fantastical ones for RTTS on The Show were a little much, though...

On that note, bat flips should be spontaneous and not choreographed, and should be about celebrating your victory rather than taunting your opponent's defeat.
