Re: it's a sad day here in Montreal
Most likely, I remember in the run up to the strike Montreal officials were saying how it was neccessary for the Expos and how they would be able to at least keep some of their star players. Sadly after the strike Kevin Malone was forced to gut the team in a 72 hr span. If that happened in any other market you'd see almost the same kind of reaction.
If the strike never happened the 'Spos would've almost assuredly gotten a downtown outdoor stadium. The Expos to my mind are the most hard luck franchise in Major League Baseball on and off the field.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: it's a sad day here in Montreal
Actually '81 was a blessing in disguise as the first half of the season wasn't so good for the 'Spos (or is it the other way around?) Anyways if it wasn't for the split season the Expos wouldn't have had a chance to make the playoffs. '81 will always be remembered for "Blue Monday". In fact on TSN they listed it the number one Expos moment.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: it's a sad day here in Montreal
Thanks guys ...
It was hard to see that last game ...
Seing Claude Raymond ( a former Expos pitchers and now bullpen coach ) go on the mound ( after the game ) and stay there for like 15 minutes ...
sad ...
Now i have to choose another team to root for ...even though I know it will never be the same ...
to bad ...
I feel like this city is going down ..
Expos gone , Canadiens sucks year in and year out (hockey), and everybody here is so happy about the Alouettes's record of 10-1 ( canadian football league ) , but that's not even a major league level ....
It's hard to believe that we once had the olympic ...
I'll feel sad to say to my kid : you see Nathan , those Braves used to beat the hell out of our team ...Comment

Re: it's a sad day here in Montreal
Montreal was a big baseball town for the past 25 years...I mean people forget the baseball tradition that is in this city..remember that jackie robinson's 1st game was in montreal.it's really a sad day IMO.but when this has been rumored for years now,it's hard for fans to care about showing up for the team when they know there isn't any hope...Last season we had a chance to make a playoff run,but that didn't happen(stinking rocky biddle!).Anyway i'll still root for the Wahington Whatever there names will be.And of course i still have my Blue Jays!Comment
