No American team for me ...

Well that's it ,now that Expos are gone I am now a Toronto Blue Jays fan ...
the team I have hated since i was born ...
but there is no way I was gonna root for an american team ...
You stole my Expos , you stole the Nordiques and ...you're about to re-elect Bush ...
go Jays go ! ( man does that sound weird ) ....

well - i think that it was wrong that MLB took over the team - remember, last year they could not have any Sept. call ups?? - but cannot blame just that.. also consider that the Expos have been drawing very poor attendance for the pst several years.. that's really the big point.. the team just could not survive going that route anymore.. (ps- also blame the greedy players for striking in '94- that's when it started going south)

I feel for ya man, but the franchise was in shambles in part because of the lack of fan support (among other things). Would you have rather kept the Expos in Montreal and had them field a AA team every year and be the doormat of the league? No one even wanted to buy them.

It's unfortunate that you can't appreciate a baseball team and the game for what they are instead of associating it with the United States and what we represent.

No city would ever have pakced a stadium when year after year the team lost the bests players ...
There is a lot of others ( american ) franchise that are in the same situation that the Expos were .. ( Pirates,Reds,Brewers,Diamondbacks,Indians,Royals ) .
People stopped going at the stadium ever since Bud Selig began talking about moving them away ...
juste remember what is was like in the late 70's and the 80's ...the stadium was packed ...
and our economy was'nt as good as it is now ...
the MLB would never have treated an american team the way they did with Montreal ( having them play over 20 games elsewhere etc ...)
            that was lame ...

It really isn't an American/Canada thing. It's all about financials. The Expos were in much more serious financial problems than some of the teams you mentioned. Also regarding losing the best players. Maybe the players didn't want to play in MTL? Or maybe the team couldn't afford to pay them due to a lack of money? Maybe it was bad management trading away the likes of Pedro Martinez and others. I really don't know, but I do know it's not because MTL was from Canada.

I'm a Pirates fan and while they aren't doing well, they've been around for over 100 years. They aren't going anywhere right now for the simple reason that they have a very storied franchise. They don't sell like the Cubs, Yankees, Red Sox and many others, but the team isn't in financial trouble.

I can't speak for the other teams you mentioned since I don't know all the details about them, but IMO all those teams are doing much better financially than the Expos are. Money is the bottomline..
