Consider this... when starting pitcher and team leader Darryl Kile died on June 22, the Cardinals had a 40-31 record... They finished the regular season with 97 victories.
Do the math... the Cards won 57 games after Kiles's death...
Kile wore #57.
In Kile's final game he pitched the Cardinals to a win over ANaheim.... with that win.. the Cards moved into undisputed possession of first place, and never relinquished the NL Central... AND the best broadcaster of all time.. Jack Buck died after the game. AND yes.. with the Angels in town.
You can believe what you want.. I don't really believe in destiny... but it all does seem like a fairy tale to me. I believe the Cardinals if they win the WOrld Series and have overcome these tragedicies is because they are that good of a team and picked up some key aquisitions..
