    Re: Yankees-Twins ALDS Thread

Last night's game was a must win for the Yanks and they pulled it out. We'll see how both teams play in Minnesota. I know I'd rather have Kevin Brown, busted hand and all, pitching for my team instead of Carlos Silva.

To his defense... he pitched really, really good in his last 8 starts. I think he had 2.00 ERA over the final month of the season.

            Great game!

Nathan was left in too long, and the biggest mistake was not having someone warming up. Nathan was blowing the game, and there was nothing the Twins could do about it with no one up in the pen. Arod had an amazing game, and has had an amazing series so far. Great play by Jeter to win it. Jones looked like he thought there was no way Jeter would try, and just threw it to the cutoff man.

Yankees have the momentum. On paper, we should win game 3. I still don't trust Kevin Brown though. Huge game, especially for the yankees. You don't want to face Santana, on the road, in an elimination game.

Ok, ok. I don't blame him for having Nathan up for the third inning, I mean the guy is a former starter and you have to do things like that in the post-season, but would you atleast have someone warming up in the pen? Romero? Mulholland? Crain? Anybody.

Another question, why was Kubel even in the lineup? What has he even done to start over Lew Ford? Sure, Kubel hit well for a month at the end of the season, but Lew Ford has been hitting well the entire season?

And what was Jaque Jones doing out there? How can you not be ready to make a throw? That was just awful. Just making Jeter look better than he is...baffoon I say! Bafffffffoooon!
I don't think you can blame Gardenhire too much for leaving Nathan in. His options out there weren't very good. Crain is a 21 yr old rookie- you don't want him coming in to face ARod and Sheff. And Romero is a lefty, and Mulholland is 900 years old. I don't think he really had any choices but to leave Nathan in, and he was still throwing 95-96.

As for Kubel, I think he got 3 hits off Lieber last week, so that's why he started him.

What's the saying... "Momentum is only as good as your next starting pitcher."

I'd look for the Twins to wrap it up in Minnesota. As a Red Sox fan I'm hoping it goes 5 though.

Jeter is a good player, but if you don't think he's overrated 'you' must not watch alot of baseball.

His defense is overrated, his OPS is declining every year. But yes, he is a great leader, and he makes plays.....however, he still makes about half the Oakland A's payroll.

                        This is what a player making 18+ million does: .308 43 130 1.009 OPS

Good player, great leader. Overrated. Simple as that.

David Ortiz - .301 41 139 .983 OPS - Signed a new deal for $6.5million a year. He's the biggest bargain in baseball. His 3 year contract is for less than Manny makes in 1 year.

No offense, but that's one of the dumbest arguments I have ever heard. You're basing a guy being 'overrated' because of his salary. You keep bringing it up in every post.

And he actually had a good offensive and defensive year this season. He was batting about .190 near the end of May, and he finished the year over .290. Not a bad recovery. I'll take him over any other SS in the league. We can agree to disagree though.
