Re: 2016 Spring Training Thread
I know it's an acronym.....I just never got the * instead of .
I thought it might have a specific significance!
Why I brought this up in the Spring Training thread?
No idea!

You know baseball is around the corner around these parts when Sportsnet starts cranking out the Jays coverage.

Re: 2016 Spring Training Thread
Clerk-typists in the Korean War era U.S. Army used typewriters, not the computer keyboards of today. Mobile Army Surgical Hospital was supposed to be abbreviated: M-A-S-H. However on a typewriter keyboard (unlike a computer) the asterisk is the upper case of the hyphen. To type "M-A-S-H," it takes extra keystrokes to change from capital letters (upper case) to lower case to type the hyphen each time. It's easier (and lazier) to put the shift lock on and type all upper case letters as in "M*A*S*H" and it was originally done by Richard Hooker (aka Richard Hornblower, author of the M*A*S*H novels) to show the lack of military dicipline (asterisks are not used in Army documents) in an Army medical unit.

I like it....I'm going with this!
