Home Field During The World Series

Does anyone else hate the fact that the winner of the All-Star game gets home field advantage in the World Series? I think the league has gone a bit overboard trying to make up for the All-Star tie a couple years back. The fact of the matter is that no one cares who won the All-Star game this year, its just fun to watch. People do care who has home field advantage during the Series.

I think this is VERY similar to what the NHL did with its All-Star game some years ago and quit doing it last year, thank God. After NHL players were allowed to play in the Olympics, the NHL went crazy with the idea and started having the All-Star game North America vs. the World. It was wonderfully stupid. Now after all of the hoopla is over they've come to their senses and realized that it is, in fact, the "NHL" All-Star game, which obviously consists of the Eastern and Western Conferences.

I see Major League Baseball going back to their old ways in another couple of years, I just hope it doesn't hurt the game, which, in all likelyhood it won't. Just ask yourself this question...who won the World Series in 1986? Who won in 1908? For us baseball enthusiasts we all know the "Miracle Mets" won it in '86 and 1908 was the last time my poor 'ole Cubs won the World Series. On the flip side, I don't have a clue who won the All-Star game in 1986, or in 2002 for that matter so that game should have no weight on the most important games of the year.

I don't like this way, but I also don't like the old way of just alternating between the NL and AL each year. The home field advantage trend should continue through to the World Series the same way it goes throug the LDS and LCS. Whoever had the best regular season record in the majors should have home-field for as long as they go. In away the last 2 methods of determining homefield belittles what teams like the Cardinals do in the regular season. I'm as big a Yankee fan as they come, but the Cards deserve home field advantage in the Fall Classic.

The Cards might as well be a wild-card team from the NL. Just say for kicks that the Twins made it all the way to the World Series against the Cardinals this year. 92-70 Minnesota would get home field advantage over 105-57 St. Louis. That makes no sense at all. They need to use simple common sense and change this again. I understand that Bud wants to make the All-Star game important, blah blah blah, but it should not be THAT important.

Yeah, I dont get why its so hard to realize that whoever has the best record going into the W.S. should have home field? It makes PERFECT SENSE. This better change in the next couple years.

The current system is flawed... the alternating leagues was flawed.... but this idea... as good as it may sound... is a tad flawed itself... although it is the best system.

Think if it this way... say the Twins go 100-62 and get in the WS. The Cardinals go 99-63 and also make it into the WS. Now the Twins would get HFA but it wouldn't be fair because the Twins... who play each of their fellow AL Central teams 19 times each... including the Tigers... and Royals have a weaker divison to face than the Cardinals.

Now the Cardinals have to put up with the Cubs and Astros 19 times as well.

Therefore strength of schedule would play a huge factor in it... which is why I don't think it would ever be implemented.

I think a better idea is run differential... because that gives a better loom at your team's overlal talen.

HF should go to the team with the best regular season record.

People that argue a team like the Twins having the best record shouldn't have it over a team like the Cards who play in a tougher division ... well that isn't always true.

If you want to take into account strength of schedule than you should include strength of pitcher. A starting pitcher changes a teams chance to win.

The point I'm making is that you will never have a system that is fully equal. Even besides different pitchers you also have injuries.

MLB just copy the NBA and NHL system, best regular season record gets HF.

I think the strength of schedule thing is just looking too much into the situation. They're still divisional games and are always tough.

I agree with many of you that have posted in this thread.

I don't like the idea of the All-Star Game determining who gets home field advantage in the World Series - I say let the owner of the best record in the regular season have it.

Not too complicated, is it? I mean, they already do it in the LDS and LCS, why can't they just put it in the World Series?
