    Can Someone Who Knows Explain...

What slugging percentage is? This is one stat that I've never fully understood.

In baseball statistics, slugging percentage (SLG) is a measure of the power of a hitter. It is calculated as total bases divided by at bats. Total bases can be calculated from commonly used baseball statistics by using the formula TB = 1B + (2*2B) + (3*3B) + (4*HR)
Basically it tells how much power a player has. It's a way to tell the difference between an Ichiro or a Bonds.

OPS is when you add a player's slugging percentage and his on-base percentage together. Some think this is the best way to truly tell how good a player is offensively.

I believe slugging percentage is total bases divided by at-bats.
