    Re: Worst defensive outfielders

Cedeno is still the king of awful outfielders. With Manny it usually is he doesn't try. With Cedeno the harder he tries the worse he looks. Its hard to begin to describe how bad he looked on some plays.

Really? What the heck happened to him this year? For the Pirates he was a good LF'er who made a handful of outstanding catches. Back then I wouldn't have called him great, but I also wouldn't have called him one of the worst defensive outfielders. IMO he was above average. He must've had a really bad season for you guys.

Giles was definatly above average when he played with the Pirates. You wouldn't get him confused with Tori Hunter, or Jim Edmonds but Giles could hold his own. Plus left in PNC is pretty spacious and Giles covered it pretty well. He wasn't always gracefull but he did an good job.

I agree. He made a lot of plays for the Pirates.

Well, he's not exactly the worst out there, but there were a few he's bobbled out in RF, sometimes he looked lost out there because of that porch. Also I don't think this guy can jump that high because there was a ball that any other OF would've been able to snatch at the top of the wall. I have to give him credit for a ball that he almost got to and ended up lunging into the stands, but other than that it was a different story... I think he had a couple of good catches... Next year I want to see him back in LF with a speedy guy in RF because I think the place is too big for him to cover.

If you look at it, Giles had an okay year, but with what was expected, it's more of a dissappointing season.

                        He wasn't that bad.

But.. he didn't come as advertised, defensively. Still wouldn't put him on the list though.

Altho his career is basically over. You can't have a list like this without mentioning Raul Mondesi. The guy put up some good outfield assists numbers but he was just about the most laziest outfielder i've ever seen in a Blue Jays uniform and he got worse when he left. It's pretty sad considering he was a hot shot out of LA.
