    Re: 8/8 - 8/21 Game Discussion Thread

So I'm in Cleveland this weekend and going to the Blue Jays/Indians game tonight. But last night, we're listening to the radio while having a cookout and I'm thinking, great pitching all night, no reason to blow it now. And then Ramirez hits the home run. Seriously, Osuna? I thought he'd gotten over his 'poor outings that should be easy' phase. We don't need another long, extra-inning game. And then next batter I'm pretty sure put the announcer in shock because he called the ball of the wall, runner rounding 2nd, and then when he decided to go for home, just silence. I was like "Well, was the throw in time or did they win?" And then I heard fireworks.

That game hurts in terms of playing for home field because they'd have been up 3-2 in the season series, but in the big picture of winning the East, 1 game is all I expected them to take this weekend and if it's tonight with Sanchez pitching, that works for me.

Dansby seems to be holding on his own, so far.

I wouldn't mind seeing some walks though...12 PAs without a walk.

It's a small sample...he's not swinging at bad pitches, they are just going after him right now. He drew walks in the minors, so he isn't a free swinger. I think he'll be fine.

Diaz's fastball command has been a bit off last 2 games. He's had to rely on his slider more than he'd like. 3 walks last night (8 on the season before that), I'm not worried, but he needs to get it under control, 3 walks 1 hit 3 k's last night, talk about all or nothing lol.

It was one of the most heartbreaking losses of the last few years IMO. Hopefully the Jays can get back on their horse and win the next two. I'm just frustrated that the "new and improved" Liriano's performance was wasted. I don't know if you'd seen or heard the whole bruhaha about Thole being completely useless but it was Thole along with Pete Walker and Dane Johnson came up with the new approach of mostly eliminating the two seamer and using the 4 seam fastball as a change of pace pitch and one that changes the hitter's eye level while more often than not being a strike. In fact, Thole said that Liriano's side session prior to the start was the BEST side session he ever caught in his career.

I just got caught up on last night's Jays/Tribe game...wow, what a game. That's the kind of stuff that can really push a team one way or another.

I see the Jays are responding pretty well to last night. It doesn't hurt that our current and future ace is on the mound.

It's utterly sad that Cleveland is leading their division by 7 games and is a great baseball team...and the town won't support them.

3rd last in baseball attendance, behind TB & OAK.

I don't understand it either. It can't be the stadium because they used to sell out ALL. THE. TIME.

It's pretty sad to see this. If I were a player on the Indians i'd make a plea for fans to come out through the media and on social media too.

Cleveland has fallen hard as a city since the mid-90s. Might have something to do with that.

                        I jinxed Sanchez

Looks like the Jays plan to skip Sanchez's next start might be a good one now.

They pack out Quicken Loans arena though? Cleveland was #2 in NBA attendance behind Chicago. The average ticket price of an NBA game in Cleveland is $48 compared to MLB which is $26.

This graph depicts the average ticket price for Cleveland Cavaliers games of the National Basketball Association from 2006/07 to 2015/16.

In 2024, the average ticket price for a Cleveland Guardians game in Major League Baseball stood at just under 32 U.S. dollars.

Yeah. 41 games at probably 30,000(?) capacity vs 81 at maybe 60,000(?) capacity. Baseball tickets seem to just be harder to sell. It's a shame they don't have the support they used to. Maybe they need to make another Major League movie to boost team popularity

Yeah, I noticed the capacity and agree it's not exactly an apples-apples argument. I do wish MLB would market their game a bit more...it's not on primetime nearly as much as the other sports.

Cleveland has some star power - Lindor, Kluber, Chisenhall; this rookie Tyler Naquin is virtually unknown and he's been crushing the ball. I always wanted to go to Jacobs field...it was so unique to me, their infield dirt was so dark, it just amazed me. I'll always remember Alomar and Vizquel on that dark dark infield.
