    Rank Schilling's gutsy performence

OK, Schillings game 6 effort was truly heroic (as far as that word relates to sports). I was trying to think of other perfomences that were on par or also very memorable. The most obvious one that came to mind was Emmitt playing against the Giants with a broken collarbone. Another one, albeit less extreme, was Terrell Davis' superbowl where he had migraines. Ive seen great gutsy performences by other pitchers in the past but its usually a lot of innings/pitching on short rest but nothing like having your tendon stitched to your bone. Can anyone else think of gutsy performences in games of significant consequence where a player fought through injury?

Thats up there will Willis Reed coming back in Game 7 for the Knicks and Byron Leftwich playing on a broken leg being carried down the field by his O-line. Truly a gutsy performance. Schilling is the ultimate gamer in my book. Bravo!

For baseball, and drama, Kirk Gibson. I've never seen a more dramatic moment in baseball. If you saw it live, and understood the context it was amazing.

Don't remind me of that! I'm still bitter over that game.

Shilling's performance ranks even better then the classic example of Willis Reed because while Reed was a huge inspiration for the Knicks he only scored 2 pts IIRC.

I love how Bill Simmons referred to Schilling's bloody sock as the 'OJ' sock... :y4:

                    Awesome performance from Schilling, though.

I remember that and theres no doubt it was an amazing moment but it was one at bat. Shilling had to endure seven innings of a bum ankle while subjugating a lineup that is a whos-who of future hall-of-famers.

As a sox fan this is one of those performances that i'll remember forever. For me this tops Pedro's 6 inning no hitter in relief vs cleveland in 1999 with a bad back.
