Re: Best Active Closer
I voted Gagne, the guy is a freakin' machine! And his fastball is fast and his changeup is just SICK when it's mixed in properly.
I think he's just the best out there, you can probably make arguments for Rivera based on stats, but to see Gagne trotting out from the pen just basically has the other team knowing the game's over.
I'm a little biased towards Hoffman myself, I think he's a hell of a great closer, but he's not as invincible as Rivera and Gagne can be.Comment

However, your omission of guys like Joe Nathan, Francisco Cordero and Franky Rodriguez shows you don't know a heck of a lot about baseball.
Besides, that list should have no more than two people on it:
Eric Gagne
Mariano Rivera
In that order.Comment

The omission of Nathan and Frank Cordero in this poll is unforgivable. Regarding Franky, its well known in baseball circles that Franky is closer ready, and 12 last season is plenty enough for me for him to be listed here. I'd take him over half the guys on that list... 123 Ks in 84 innings speaks well enough.
However, if you want me to be nicer to the literacy challenged kid who created the poll I guess I could work on it... but you could always quit beating around the bush.
I do agree, though... the only two to really choose between are Rivera and Gagne... and I'll take Rivera.Comment

If we want to get technical then every teams closer should've been listed on the poll.
This was Cordero and Nathan's first full year as closers, so they still have to prove that they can perform at the level they showed this year for a few more years before we can begin to mention them with the likes of Rivera, Gagne, Smoltz, and Hoffman.Comment
