What? That was my first reaction.

But at this point I've given up on questioning Sabean. He always makes some kind of signing that I can't agree with and then the player ends up coming through. I don't know how he got the money to sign him, unless Magowan decided to let him work with a bit more this season.

Not surprised to see this as the first (major) signing. Vizquel, I'm sure, wanted to get his John Hancock on the thing before the Giants pulled it back.

3 years at 4 million per is a lot for a 37 year old player, especially for one who makes a lot of his living on speed.

I'm wondering the same thing. The giving up a first rounder is often over-looked. It would have made better sense for the Giants to wait until Dec to sign him where they don't have to give up a draft pick. Of course this is assuming no other team is willing to give up a first round pick for him.

I still feel like the Giants were better off using that money towards getting another bat.
