Heyward weakly bounces to Carpenter who bobbles it and gets nothing. Contreras 3 run HR.

Irony: Said "final boss" can still win the game.

That was about 10 FT shy of ending it in walkoff fashion.

Ah well. Nice win for your boys CB.

Liked his chances a lot better against Wong. Bad walk.

Yeah the application of the new IBB rule is uh, interesting. I like the new camera for when a runner is on 2B. It's a little far but at least it's unobstructed.

Oh, and Matheny was spared some serious 2nd guessing rather than being conventional and putting Cecil in the 8th.

Opening day for rest of the league is here! I still hate the schedule they got. Game on monday, tuesday off, wednesday a game, thursday is a game in a different city. A 2 game series split up over 3 days, followed by traveling to play another team in a 4 game series, then another day off....

Either way, weird feeling to start season. I think it's least excited I've been for Jays season. Sure expectations are abit lower based on their offseason, but having NBA/NHL playoffs to look forward to in April, Jays excitement not there yet. Doesn't help either that season begins and I'm now busier than I've been all year so I probably won't even be able to catch many games in the first week or two.

Exciting game, but as expected for Opening Day neither Cubs nor Cards were at their best. The Cubs' defense was surprisingly rickety (lots of odd actions even before the rain started) and none of the Cubs pitchers really seemed to be on with their fastball. The Cards, meanwhile, almost gifted it to the Cubs on acount of STL's atrocious batting w/RISP. Looking foward to some better played games between these 2 teams--the division could be pretty tight.

I was watching with a buddy of mine and we both noted that this game was much more a result of bad offense rather than good pitching/defense. Ugly game that only got exciting at the end.

I'm behind on the game and watching the recording (in bottom 9th, midnight ET), but I have just seen the most shamefully embarrassing thing on a baseball field that I have ever seen before, and it was completely unactionable.

Manfred should be ashamed of himself.

Still plenty of that, it amazes me how Matheny constantly mismanages the pen. Each year more and more people start taking notice. For a while I hoped it would improve with experience but I've just accepted he will be forever awful at it, fortunately they still got the win tonight.

But like you said either go Cecil in the 8th or go to Oh knowing he's your best reliever but if you do that at least have someone ready in the pen incase he runs into trouble in the long outing, instead he lets him work into trouble serve up a three run home run and finish the inning.

His bullpen management kills me, Peralta in the cleanup spot was a gem as well hopefully we won't see that again.

One day in and we already have incredible stuff happening.

Tanaka gets shelled, a fantastic game between the Giants and Diamondbacks in which a pitcher we know has power hits two homers and dabbles with a perfect game bid and a blown save for a team plagued with them last year and it ends on a walkoff. Then at night you have one of the biggest rivalries in the game, defending champs tying it up with a 3 run bomb in the 9th off a guy who's slated to be an excellent closer this year, only to turn around and get walked off.

                                What a sport, man.
