Hard to blame Strop for tonight. The ball that got past Willie wasn't a terrible pitch.. should be blocked more often than not. The error on Russell obviously wasn't his fault.

He came in with the bases loaded and 0 outs and should've given up 1 run, max. That's pretty good in my book.

True, Sandy Alderson needs to grow a pair and make sure his players are making good decisions or coerce them into doing so. Shrugging and saying you can't throw your ace into the MRI tube is a fat copout. Maybe their org's decision making has something to do with all these injuries. Funny that Sandy Alderson, a former military guy, is not apt to discipline his players or hold them accountable. If it were me, and it were my all-world ace pitcher that my team's hopes completely depend on, I might threaten a suspension if he's being an obvious moron about refusing medical diagnosis and treatment. He could "know his body really well" while riding the pine for a start or two.

Now obviously different players, but I can't stress how bad Judge looked last year, he just watched everything.

Guys with Dansby's talent level tend to figure it out. I think of Willie Mays and Mike Trout and Anthony Rizzo and Javier Baez when guys don't pan out right away. In fact, I can see some parallels with the Dansby situation and what we Cubs fans went through with Baez. Different players obviously, but some days you think they'll never be anything--absolutely lost--and others they look great. As he gets more experience, it'll be more of the latter for Dansby.

Tough start to the year for Strop.
Strop has regressed big time. He's no longer a high leverage guy, imo. More of a use him in the 6th/7th. He's our new Justin Grimm. And Justin Grimm's our new Jim Bullinger.

Addy does not have elite arm strength. Totally agree. But, the problem with that throw was he thought about it too much instead of letting it rip. He t-rex'd that ball.

I mean, sure, with the bases loaded nobody out it would be ridiculous to expect a guy to escape with no damage. HOWEVER, Strop continues to show maddening inconsistency. He looks invincible in striking out the un-strikeoutable Mookie Betts. Then he proceeds to bury every other pitch into the dirt with the bases loaded? That can't happen. It's one thing if they get a hit (like Bogaerts' sweet 2-strike approach against Uehara), but you have to make them beat you. Strop beats himself way too much. I wouldn't go so far as to say he's regressed back to Baltimore Pedro Strop, but he's not a guy the Cubs have been able to use successfully in high leverage situations anymore whereas he used to be a decent setup man to Hector Rondon.

Swanson's development or lack thereof (it's April) would be less frustrating if he wasn't presented as savior by Braves fans and pundits and whoever else these last two years. Kinda like Bill O'Brien.

As someone who doesn't follow the Braves and only hears opinions of them online, Dansby has seemingly gone from Jeter to scrub in no time flat.

Strop was used hard last year. I expected him to start this way. I hope the offense can gel so that he isn't seen as "necessary" so often. He'll be needed in the fall.
