I think bunting foul with 2 strikes is an out because otherwise someone could keep bunting pitches foul, getting whatever they could on the ball, until they got a good bunt down. I think it'd be pretty tough to screw up a bunt without the worry of striking out on a foul ball

Re: What are some rules that you think are dumb, or that confuse you?
Thats exactly why the rule is in place. Thats why more players hit .400 in the early 90's versus now.
Foul-tippiong into the glove is a strikeout simply because MLB feels the batter didn't get enough bat on the ball to even warrant calling it contact. The pitcher still got the ball past the hitter and into the catcher's mit for a strike, so it's a strikeout.Comment

Re: What are some rules that you think are dumb, or that confuse you?
This is off topic, but it's a random question I've always been meaning to ask.
If there is a runner on 3rd with less than 2 outs, and they hit a flyball into the outfield, is there any rule stopping a player from not catching the ball, but continuing to tip the ball up in the air until they reach the infield, and then catch it, so the guy on 3rd can't score?Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

-The infield fly rule only applies with runners on 1st and 2nd or the bases loaded and less than two outs, not with just a runner on 2nd, so the cheap double play can still be achieved.
-The balk rule is just plain insane. I can't understand how the rule changes from a runner being on first to a runner being on 2nd or 3rd. Why are you allowed to fake a throw or pick-off attempt to 2nd or 3rd, but not to first. I guess baseball thought that the pitcher had too much of the upper hand with a runner on first and wanted to encourage stolen bases.Comment

While there is no rule prohibiting this I'm pretty sure that on the umpires's own discretion he can award homeplate to the runner on third.
You aren't allowed to purposely blind/fool a runner into a bad situation. Something similar happened during the season when on the same type of play, the shortstop ran in front of third base to block the runner's view of the outfielder catching the ball. Because he couldn't see when the catch was made he was unable to tag up. The umpires awarded homeplate to the runner, anyway and it ended up being the winning run."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: What are some rules that you think are dumb, or that confuse you?
One rule that i disagree with (which you won't se every often) is if you throw your glove at the ball in an attmept to stop it. If you do that, the runner is awarded third base.
I would think that if you have the accuracy to nab a little ball going 40 mph over your head by throwing a small piece of leather at it.. you deserve to have the chance to get the runner. Thats just my opinion though.
