Really surprised that Wright fell to Atlanta...as much as I wanted us to draft hitting, I can't fault the FO for taking him. I know they are projecting he'll be in the majors by 2019, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's sooner than that.

Re: MLB Draft 2017
I urge everybody to go read this article by Lee Jenkins about Hunter Greene. https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/04/24/hu...eene-mlb-draft
If you weren't a fan of him before, I don't know how you can't be after reading that.

I'm shocked about Royce Lewis. His dad is my first cousin lol. Let's just say my family is a happy one. I'm already noticing some DISTANT relatives popping up all of a sudden. Lol

Re: MLB Draft 2017
I haven't talked to his dad in a few years, seems like the only time we see each other is when someone passes in Bakersfield, Ca. . I've met the young man only once when he was a little tike. Who would of thought??
Just from what I've heard him mention he prefers SS. Gonna wait a few days then reach out to send my Congrats and get the scoop. A few of my family members are blowing FB up.

Brendan McKay goes to Tampa. Not too often the ballpark you played in at college is better than the one you'll play in at the major league level.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: MLB Draft 2017
I really love the Jays' first two picks tonight in Warmoth and Pearson. Warmoth is one of those kids that has improved every year and that's the kind of high up ceiling guy the Jays really need IMO. He projects to stay at SS or at worst be a 2B. The comp of him with JJ Hardy is encouraging to me. Pearson looks to be a future setup/closer guy with an incredible fastball and MLB ready slider. The rest of his arsenal isn't up to snuff so he's perfect as a two pitch one inning guy.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: MLB Draft 2017
Is it me or does he have a lot of whip in his arm? I don't see him using much of his lower half. Seems like that would cause problems mechanically or even injury problems with so much of his velocity being dependent on the arm/elbow.

He looks to use his lower half pretty well to me. That back leg comes through pretty high, which is a good indicator that his hips are getting through nicely and creating good torque in his core. There could be more there, but I don't think it's anything that might create more risk for injury.
Having said that, he'll probably blow his UCL next Spring.Comment

LOL...the Braves can't help themselves. With pick #3 they take a high school pitcher who looks like a real project. Re: MLB Draft 2017
Velocity is a result of arm/hand speed, so anyone that throws hard is going to have a lot of whip.

And I'm not sure mechanics has as much to do with UCL injuries as initially claimed.
They had Dr. Andrews on the MLB Network the other day and they were trying to break down the cause of why there have been so many TJ surgery's in the past decade.
(Crazy stat of the day; More pitchers had TJ in 2014 than the 90's combined).
They showed video of a few pitchers who've had TJ in the past seasons and each one had different mechanics.
In the end, I believe the rubber-band theory.
If you stretch a rubber band half-way over and over, it'll be fine.
If you stretch it to it's extreme limit, eventually it'll snap.
The radar gun has ruined more arms than anything. Kids are throwing at 100% velocity on every pitch.
But it's easier for naturally gifted arms to let 'er rip every pitch than learning the fine art of mixing pitches and developing control & precision.
And every prospect knows if they're not touching mid 90's, they're not getting looked at.
*Throwing 12-months a year since you were 8 probably can't help either.Last edited by Money99; 06-13-2017, 01:06 PM.Comment
