Re: 2017 MLB Trade Deadline Thread

Apparently, it's gonna be Justin Wilson + Alex Avila to the Cubs for Jeimer Candelario + Isaac Paredes + cash/PTBNL. I will take it.

Carrie Muskat already has the article up on Cubs dot com...

The official website of the Chicago Cubs with the most up-to-date information on news, tickets, schedule, stadium, roster, rumors, scores, and stats.

Getting a haircut in the morning and then coming home to watch the MLB Trading Deadline special. They better have Heyman, Rosenthal and Sherman on.

Speaking of trades, it's the 20th anniversary of the worst trade in baseball history.

        Seattle gets Heathcliff Clocumb
Boston gets Jason Varitek, Derek Lowe, and two World Series rings.

I suppose this is an okay return for the Tigers....? Candelario may be our 3rd baseman as of next season (maybe), don't know much about Paredes.

The market for Avila really dried up compared to a month ago...I suppose this is the gamble you take when you wait until the deadline.

I always felt Wilson was better suited as a set-up guy than true closer, although frankly, the difference between those roles is probably pretty thin.

Ah yes, when the Mariners decided against Heathcliff Slocumb for his evil doppelganger Heathcliff Clocumb.

Candelario can hit and he's in that mold of hitterish, but not very athletic position players that the Tigers like so much. Candelario is a switch hitter and can handle either corner infield spot ok. He gives the Tigers some flexibility with moving Nick Castellanos (a truly bad defensive player) around or trading him. Candy is slotted in as Detroit's 3rd best prospect on MLB dot com as of this morning. Not much risk with him because he's so close to the bigs already.

Paredes is an 18 year old in low A ball that was ranked ~10th best in the Cubs system. Partly because he's pretty good and partly because the Cubs' farm system has thinned out dramatically over the past 2-3 years. Paredes is now the 8th best prospect in Detroit's system per MLB dot com.

A's finally completely the much anticipated move of trading Adam Rosales to the DBacks.

Pending a physical. I think this may be good for the Stros as they'll be using Liriano in relief. He's been really good in 5 inning stretches lately so putting him in a situation where you need a big out or an inning he'll do well.

Hopefully the OF will be someone ready for the big leagues right away.

That would almost make the Astros a lock for the WS IMO.
