Nice to see Sean Rodriguez back and in the lineup. Hopefully he gets hot about 3 games from now.

I think that Heyward is almost the epitomy of sabermetrics.

Great rookie season and so much potential with the bat...but as his bat regressed, his defense got more recognized. No way he'd still be a regular 10-20 years ago.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Maybe...but he's the player who is average to above average in nearly every category. Those kind of players are valuable...I do wish he'd get the offense figured out though.

Read a stat earlier today that the Dodgers have swept 11 different series this year. 35 games above .500 for the first time since 78 (I think). I know the streak will end eventually hopefully we can run away with the division (Currently 10.5 ahead) and give some guys rest before the playoffs. Curious as to who or what we acquire at the deadline and what we give up to get it.

For those of you who haven't seen Heyward much lately, he's actually striking the ball pretty well this year. I don't mentally brace for the automatic out like last year. He's never gonna be a .900 OPS type, but if he can be around .750-.800 he's automatically a 3-4+ WAR player based on his defense.

Before he went on the DL a couple months ago, he was leading the Cubs in average exit velocity. Not sure if that's still the case, but he's at least still in the top 3-5 on the team.

Here it is as of right now...

Brian Duensing is bringing the lumber.

                Rizzo - 88.3 MPH
                Heyward 87.9 MPH
                then everyone else

Case in point right there...Heyward broke his bat at the handle and the ball still went a ways with a line drive trajectory, albeit foul. Then he works a full count walk. You can tell he has his swerve back, as the kids say.

Jon probably just cost himself a close call later this game. Probably shouldn't argue with the HP ump when you're the pitcher.

Looked like a pretty good pitch, too.

Teheran, why are you still a Brave???? They should have sold him a couple years back when he had any value left.

I enjoy listening to Tim McCarver cover a game.

Cards up 6-3 heading to the 9th. If we don't add anything here, hopefully we can hold this lead.

Freeman saves Teheran from giving up another 2-3 runs on a rocket from Rizzo. It's still very depressing to strike a pitcher out, but still allow his AB to advance the runners. I've seen enough Teheran over the years where I am to the point of just wanting to see him go. I've waited and waited, he isn't going to put it all together. He always has some excuse for a poor performance be it his hands hurt, the cold weather got to him, or he just gets frustrated too easily.

Brewers drop the opener in Pittsburgh. Cubs have ground to be gained tonight, but can't lose any.

Ugh. Man on 3rd nobody out in a 1-run game and looks like the Cubs are gonna leave Happ out there.

It would be so Teheran to see Lester drive in the run here after Heyward and Baez both failed to do so.
