    Possible Braves trade for Mulder?

I'm reading about a possible trade between the Braves and A's where the A's would get Giles, minor league pitcher Dan Myers, and another Prospect, and the Braves would get Mulder.

I'm not sure I'm realy excited about that. Mulder is a good pitcher, but Giles is the only guy who consistently shows the heart I believe the Braves need to get past the 1st round of the playoffs. Then again, we need an ace, and Mulder definitely has that potential.

    Thoughts?

Sounds good for both teams. The As are in desperate need for an offensive 2nd basemen.... and the Braves really need an ace.

I doubt that it would happen as Beane has said that there is no chance of Mulder being traded if there is any chance at all of any of the Big 3 getting traded.

Crap. I saw this thread title and my heart jumped in joy! But then I saw Giles could be included, and now I'm not so sure. I love Marcus Giles and what he brings to the table. Consistent energy and always a bat, I dont know. We DO need an ace though, and Mulder fits the role to a tee. Mazzone can do wonders with him.

Cant there be any other way, John Scheurholz??

Mulder would be a great fit for the Braves and in the NL I think he could be a dominant ace. However, Marcus Giles is one of my favorite position players. I think he does everything well and when he finally gets a full, healthy, season under his belt he'll put up some solid numbers for a second baseman (.300 average, 25 homeruns, 20 steals). Both teams would benefit, but both would lose something vital. Mulder may be the most valuable of the "big three" so I would imagine Beane would be very hesitant to deal him. I think if Beane is going to trade a starter, he'll push to trade Zito before he even thinks of trading Hudson or Mulder.

Now way would I do the deal for Zito. I'd do it for Hudson though. Hudson is a stud, and a power pitcher, which is something the Braves have lacked. Power pitchers do well in the postseason.

Re: Possible Braves trade for Mulder?

This rumor originally came from Peter Gammons earlier this week, though he didn't name Mulder. Just said that the Braves had offered Giles and Meyer for one of the A's "big 3".

Since then, others have picked up on it, some saying it would be for Mulder, some saying Zito. Mulder is intriguing, though he was awful in the second half last season (injury?). Zito doesn't really interest me much. Certainly not enough to consider giving up Giles.

I'd much rather go for Zito and possibly not give up Giles, rather than go for Mulder or Hudson, and having to give up Giles.

No way in HELL the Braves should make this deal if it is for Zito. He has really been on the decline in the past couple of years, and don't see how he'd really help out Atlanta.

For Mulder, though, ATL would at least have to consider the deal. I absolutely love Marcus Giles' game and what he brings to the Braves, and he's one of my favorite players in the game today, but Mulder is phenomenal when healthy. He could be that pitcher to put the Braves over the top..

If Smoltz returns to the rotation, like he is rumored to, a 1-2 punch of him and Mulder would be threatening to any lineup.
