Re: 2017-2018 MLB Hot Stove Thread
I'm willing to stick it out another 3 years or so. The Jays aren't quite in that "we got to blow everything up" mode but it really depends on the drafting and free agency. Remember, over the next couple years there's a LOT of money coming off the books so the Jays can make some shrewd free agent moves and trades with all that money to play with. Shapiro has a fairly good track record with his drafting history so I want to see how that plays out and that will take some time.
By rebuild, I don't mean deal the likes of Sanchez, Stroman, Pillar and so on. Minus Donaldson and Solarte, I'd have no problem dealing anyone 30+. The Martin/Morales/Tulo contracts will hurt them, but if Jays can get some good pieces for their other guys(ones like Happ,Estrada will be expiring), make 2019 a rebuild year(Martin/Morales expiring at end of 2019 could lead to some team wanting them for playoff push next summer), and 2020 they can go at it with the likes of Sanchez,Stroman,Vlad,Bo and so on leading the way. Who knows, as injury prone as Tulo is, in that 2020 season(his final guaranteed year), if he can even just be a DH for them, perhaps that could help slightly too.
Take 1 step back(spanning from summer 2018-2019) and 2 steps forward(everything beyond that). I'm just worried that Rogers might pressure them to put together a borderline .500 team that can sell 25,000 tickets a game.
Brian Burke said the Kessel deal was basically due to "ticket price fatigue". Sure, he'd never admit someone made him do it, but no doubt higher ups(MLSE) were pressuring him to do things to have someone on the team to help boost business, even if it means sacrificing the long term future of the team(which is exactly what happened). It's hockey but still, corporations drive Toronto teams and so often it hurts them, Leafs for several years, and Jays for much of the 00s are examples of that.Last edited by Majingir; 05-29-2018, 04:29 PM.Comment

Phillies having serious considerations for Machado? Wondering what they are considering in the package. I'm not sure their chemistry is completely fantastic yet and even further unsure if Machado has matured at all to this point and could actually damage what chemistry is there. I have too many questions about this.Comment

Certainly hope they're not thinking of Lively. Eflin can go. Can be really on or off. Luis Garcia can as well. This'll be interesting.Comment

Rays trade Brad Miller + cash to the Brewers for Ji Man Choi. Essentially just a giveaway trade without even giving away all the salary. Think this is the G-mans 6th MLB club already? Not bad going for a 27 year old foreign player, at least he ended his Brewers career with a salamiComment

So they posed this question on FS1.
Would you trade Gleyber Torres for Jacob DeGrom?Comment

Speaking of trade speculation talk that isn't real...
A Red Sox fan writer suggested the Red Sox deal Mookie Betts and Rick Porcello to Atlanta for Mikey Folty, Ozzie Albies, and a top prospect. Like goodness dude, no offense but this just is wrong.
