The Cubs will be an interesting team to watch this offseason. Maddon's seat isn't hot at all--3 years and 3 NLCS berths; say what you want about Joe, but that's a ridiculously successful 3 years.

However, perhaps the focus shifts from simply keeping the young guys and watching them get better into a bit of a remodel. I expect the entire infield (Contreras/Rizzo/Baez/Russell/Bryant) to remain intact, but the outfield could be much more interesting. What the hell do we do with Jason Heyward and his albatross contract? Would there be any takers for a trade if the Cubs heavily subsidize it? Are the Cubs even willing to pull the plug on him? What about Zobrist...does he have much left? What to do with Jay/Schwarber/Almora/Happ and the other 2 OF spots? Any of those guys trade bait?

The pitching might be even more likely for an overhaul. Lackey is done. Arrieta is more than likely going to get PAID by someone else. Lester/Hendricks/Quintana gives the Cubs a quality top 3. But this team's gonna need some more quality and depth. The entire operating philosophy of the bullpen (lots and lots of K's but lots and lots of BB's, too) might have to change. It's hard to maintain any consistency when you really have no faith 80% of your bullpen will be "on" in any given game. We just can't carry 7 guys that have 4-5 BB/9 year in and year out (Edwards Jr., Montgomery, Rondon, Davis, Strop, Grimm, Wilson) and when they are all 1-1.5 BB/9 worse this year than the year before, something's just not right about the approach/coaching.

I think the Cubs trade Schwarber this offseason for pitching. He's such a liability defensively and he's really not all that good offensively either. I don't know what his value is around the league, but if they can't send him to an AL team for some relief help, I'd be all for it.

I think Almora is a stud, so I hope he gets the chance to play full time next year. I don't see anyone taking Heyward's contract, so unfortunately I think the Cubs are stuck with him for 6 more years (I don't see him opting out after next year either, knowing he won't get that kind of money again).

Gotta find 3-4 SPs to fill out the rotation. Maybe Montgomery gets another shot as a full-time SP. I don't really know how they fix the rotation without spending a bunch of money or completely thinning out the rest of the farm.

The Nats are a joke. You can't keep changing managers like this. I know Dusty made some questionable moves in the postseason but at some point you're going to have to look at completely changing the culture and offing the GM.

I feel bad for Baker here, he seems like a great guy and I would've hoped one day he could win a championship. I feel like the Nats did him a bit of a disservice.

Ridiculous...I criticized his moves, but they didn't lose because of the manager. I like how in Washington the only person ever held accountable is the manager; it's never the players, it's never the GM, it's always Davey Johnson, Matt Williams, or Dusty Baker.

Mike Rizzo has too much power and probably incriminating evidence against the team owners. I mean, how many GMs in the league are also the president of the ballclub?

I would NOT hire Acta for the Mets job. Long might be a good fit but as hitting coach he didn't inspire much confidence what with the Mets offense not exactly lighting it up.

Dusty Baker was the Nationals 7th manager in 14 seasons. Gives you an idea just how the team is run from up top.

Jake Arrieta already put his Chicago home up for sale. Pretty sure we all knew he wasn't coming back. But, this confirms that.

Just to clear this up, Arrieta doesn't own a house in Chicago. He and his wife were renting a place that according to her "they moved out of weeks ago" and "were moving out no matter what happens."

Also, Chris Bosio is out as pitching coach here. I knew there would be changes at Wrigley, just didn't expect it to be that and this soon.

Remember in 2011 when Jim Riggleman resigned as manager midseason? Then Davey Johnson took over, and then retired after 2013. Then there was the Matt Williams debacle. Dusty Baker guided the Nationals to back to back playoffs for the first time in Nats/Expos history. While it seems easy with the Nat's roster, I'm sure Nats fans would like to forget the missed opportunities that were 2013 and 2015.

Based on how the team's contracts were set, riding it out with Dusty for one more year makes sense before they have to retool a bit. Gio, Murphy, and Harper are hitting FA after 2018; the roster will still be strong, but there will be holes to fill.
