Wow...LA going all in. That's a pretty strong team all the sudden...Trout, Ohtani, Upton, Kinsler, Pujols, Simmons. If they get something out of the pitching staff they might give Houston a run for their money.

Avila doing work. I'm pleased so far with the offseason.

I think the Ozuna return is solid for the Marlins. Sierra will slot into the outfield, Alcantara and Gallen will compete for a SP slot and Castano is a lottery ticket. The first three are pretty solids prospects, the first two being the Cardinal's top 5. Ozuna only had this year and next left before hitting FA, and with a projected 11 M salary, he was a goner.

Prado, Tazawa, Ziegler, Chen, Castro and Yelich are the only ones left making 7 M or more this upcoming season. Chen, Prado and Tazawa have negative value, Ziegler and Castro have marginal value and Yelich should fetch a hefty return.

EDIT: Kinsler return kind of ho-hum, but it was a buyers market for 2B. On with the rebuild.

The issue for me is their starting pitching and while they're good on paper some of their key players are a little long in the tooth/could easily go down with injury. They're certainly giving it their all though.

This sort of has the feeling that the Padres had when A.J. Preller took over. Hopefully it works better for the Angels than it did for the Padres.

LAA's pitching is still injury-prone up and down the entire rotation and they are really right-handed in the lineup still.

Pujols probably shouldn't be listed as a good player anymore.

But they're certainly going big. If their pitching can finally stay healthy, that looks like a good squad.

I know he's not a good player anymore, but he's still Albert Pujols. You don't leave him off the list, even if his time has passed.

No kidding! Eppler is going for it.

Now close to getting a 3B, possibly Headley.

Sheesh, all these disparate parts making up the LA Angels for 2018. If there's a manager who could make it work it might be Scioscia. I would give him Manager of the Year if he can win the division with this team and that's saying something with the Astros still being a young and super talented team themselves.

I don't think any player is worth it as history suggests EVERY player with these enomorous contracts end up hurting the club versus providing value.

From Bryce's perspective, I'd get as much as Walgreens would give me. But if I'm a fan of that team, these 5-10 year deals never work with a ludicrous salary.

Don't forget Fowler has a full no trade clause.

Also can't find the quote but I read somewhere last week when speculation first started leaking the Cards may look to move him he said something along the lines of he and his family are just settling in here and he'll be in St. Louis for a long time.

So wouldn't count on Fowler going anytime soon unfortunately.

All this talk of Harper getting $300-400M...I don't get it.

Look, Harper's great...he really is, but outside of his monster 2015 season he's been just an okay player. He posted a 9-10 WAR season in 2015, but for the other 5 seasons of his career he's averaged around 3-4 WAR.

If I'm a team and he's asking that...I can't do it. He hasn't shown that he a) can stay healthy or b) that he can consistently play at the 2015 level.

If I'm giving that kind of money away, I can think of several players I'd give a contract like that before Harper.

I completely agree with you. I just don't get the fascination over Harper. I get that he's still young and has a lot of production in him but he's also had a couple really bad injuries and aside from that awe inspiring 2015 he's been great but not 300 million dollars great. I think too many analysts and baseball people are blinded by that one year and the potential of Harper being this generational player but I don't see it. I'd give Mike Trout that kind of money instead at least he's been more consistent.
