Re: 2017-2018 MLB Hot Stove Thread
1. If I was crying that the Knicks were bad and a Warriors fan told me to get a grip, I wouldn't have an issue with it honestly. If I told someone my team has been putting me through hell for 20 years and I couldn't deal with it, I would expect them to tell me to stop supporting them.
2. I'm saying, and I already said, that I don't have sympathy for Marlins Man not getting Jeter to ride in his car nor do I have sympathy for a grown adult crying over a sports franchise.
3. This is pro sports, ****ing entertainment. If those fans are being driven to tears because they want a team that cares what they think, THEN ROOT FOR ONE. It's a hard lesson to be learned for sports fans, Knicks fans learn it every year, but your voice doesn't matter. How about this? We actually show up to the games, and sell out the stadium, and the team is the most valuable in the league... And we still suck! I don't blame anyone that doesn't want to stand with their team, it's a thankless and probably crazy thing to do. If they don't want to do it, don't.
4. When people buy a business widely known to be massively in debt and supposedly operating at a loss, yeah they tend to do what they can to cut expenses. In baseball, that's trading high cost players. This is a game to us, but not to the people who actually make the decisions. Expecting them to look at it like we do makes no sense. If you own the Marlins, why would you put money in a team that hasn't proven it can maintain decent attendance since 1997? You're in a position where you might put all your money into the team, and they still end up with 20000 fans in the seats.
I can't even believe this is a conversation to be had. A rich guy trying to throw his weight around with guys way richer than him. Crying over the Marlins? With everything going on in the world? Can't care.
And it's more anti-meme than about Jeter. **** is so played out. An AL East team just traded the best player in their franchise history because... He was too expensive on even an extremely friendly team deal. They have a lower payroll than the Marlins. And less attendance. But people aren't posting articles about them being a joke franchise and funny tweets because... Yeah. It's just corny. Doesn't matter anyway, they're all irrelevant. Maybe Jeter took all the Steinbrenner criticism to heart and instead of upsetting small market fans by spending as much money as possible, he's going in the opposite direction.
Spoiler
1. But people don't misunderstand your misery as a Knicks fan like you are portraying fans of the Marlins. You blaming the fans for not getting over it is sort of like a Warriors fan telling you Knicks fans to suck it up, that it's not that bad. What's the big deal? Just don't root for the team, problem solved! Come join our bandwagon! When all of that stuff doesn't come from a position of authenticity and comes off as patronizing.
2. Are you saying that the only way for Marlins fans to have a legitimate right to complain is if they are billionaires that can actually buy the team? If so, just wow.
3. It's been only 3 months, but the fans of the team have seen this movie far too many times. Slash payroll. Sell everything that isn't bolted down. A seemingly incompetent team of front office executives that really don't seem to care what their fans think. That see the business as a money machine no different from a casino or a burger joint or an insurance company. I think fans of pro sports teams want people that give a crap about their team and the customers of the team to be making these decisions.
4. When people pay north of a billion dollars for a pro sports team, they always have a fire sale? There are examples, sure, but this is hardly the only destiny for a new ownership group. You will probably find a lot of examples of teams going on spending sprees with new ownership. The fact they are subtracting from the team to pay down debt instead of adding to a good young core by adding free agents/international signings is their choice. Marlins fans have every right to be upset about that choice. I don't see how you can say it's not valid for them to feel that way...or buy the team already..or they're just a buncha whiny babies who need to RE2PECT.
