I understand the essence of what they're saying, but the criticism regarding their timing, manner and presentation should be expected. Sure, by the umbrella of free speech, you are correct and as long as they didn't violate any company policies, they shouldn't be fired or reprimanded.

But there is such a thing as decorum and taste. Essentially, what these guys did showed no class. But conversely, no one has to listen or ever listen again to them. They are delivering a product. And if this is how they want to deliver their product, then let the public consumer determine what should happen to them.

Lots of people love Howard Stern, but after what I saw what I believed to be exploitation of people with developmental disabilities, I simply vowed never to watch or listen to him again, not that I did much of that to begin with.

      It was Felger not Mazz.

And you’re aero. Both are doing the show right now, and Felger has since apologized. Though he may still be disciplined. And Mazz said he screwed up for not stopping Felger. But Felger was just criticizing Halladay’s reckless behavior like most of us did after we found that Fernandez was on a reckless bender and driving his boat. Was the tone of the comments wrong, timing of them wrong, absolutely. But in my opinion he doesn’t deserve any extreme discipline (ie getting fired).

I was speaking off the cuff when I said they both should be fired but there's a huge difference between expressing dismay and concern for how Halladay (and Fernandez before him) were operating their vehicles. Those two idiots expressed themselves in a way that showed very little class and decorum. At the very least they should be suspended for a time though.

Yea if Felger gets 3/4 day suspension or a week at most that’s perfectly reasonable. But calling for the guy to be fired is extreme, in my opinion. I don’t think Mazz or Murray deserve any punishment since they didn’t do anything except not tell Felger to shut up.

And supposedly the comments have spun by the media like always (Deadspin headline really) from what Felger has said today. He said that the reference to “he deserved to die” was about himself. I haven’t listened to yesterday’s show yet so I didn’t hear the full set of comments and the context behind them. So I can’t tell for sure if what Felger is saying today is true or not.

I heard today that this past off-season Halladay had expressed interest to the Blue Jays of working as a staff member with their minor league pitchers. The Blue Jays actually made him "apply" for the job, sent his application up the chain to management, and they turned him down. If true, I will never understand why organizations do that type of crap...

He was doing that job with the Phillies this year. Was last at the minor league complex on Monday.

There's a real disconnect with the front office running the team today when it comes to Blue Jays Alumni. In fact, this front office has fired a LOT of long time people within the organization especially Canadian talent that has been here for decades. It's one of the reasons why there's disdain and mistrust of Shapiro in this market.

It'd help if you have someone who actually understands the market. Like with Leafs and Shanahan, he knows exactly how to handle the fanbase and the legends of the team. He even did the impossible and got Dave Keon to make up with the franchise.

But Jays I found actually did a decent job beforehand in honoring their past. You could count on seeing a number of guys from the WS teams coming back. Ambassador type roles they've done good job, but coaching wise, there hasn't really been any type of consistency or anything with it.

That's what I read...after the Blue Jays turned him down, he went to the Phillies and they didn't make him "apply". Mind boggling...

Most teams don't make former players apply for a spring training gig. Can you imagine the Yankees making Andy Pettite or Derek Jeter fill out an application? Or the Dodgers making Koufax or Lasorda "apply"

Stupid people do stupid things I guess. Toronto has a hard enough time getting Free Agents to come to Canada. I'd imagine some alumni will stay away after this.

I agree with this, Bob Elliott who wrote the piece about this has a distinct dislike of the current Shapiro/Atkins group. It was in bad taste for him to do a hit piece on management in the form that it was written in. We'll see how the Jays handle honoring Halladay's legacy in Toronto. If they do it in a professional and loving way than this will get swept under the rug but if they bungle it this is going to be a very sore spot in regards to this current regime.

In all due respect with the passing of Roy Halladay. I am hearing future Hall of Famer. He was very good, but not Hall of Fame great. He retired too early. I am not sure if it was from injuries or not. He was generally young when he retired. I think he won 203 games. He was a great man and teammate. But I will be surprise if he makes into the Hall of Fame.
