Re: Yanks sign Womack and Wright

I love that Jaret Wright will be in a Yankees uniform. He participated in what was one of the best Red Sox games i ever attended. In game 3 of the 1999 ALDS vs Cleveland Jaret came on in relief.

The entire crowd was chanting JAAARRRRRRETTTT, JAAARRRRRRETTTT. You could just see him crumbling as he proceeded to get shelled. The Red Sox were down 2-0 at the time but came back to win games 3,4 and 5, scoring 44 runs on 45 hits in 3 games.

This was also the series where Pedro came in game 5 and pitched 6 no hit innings with a bum shoulder.

Re: Yanks sign Womack and Wright

Gotta say that I hope the Yankees have something up their sleeves. I don't mind Womack, he brings a decent leadoff hitter and moving Jeter back to number 2, which creates balance. Wright has Jeff Weaver written all over him. I was at the game in 97 when he beat the Yanks in the playoffs. I don't think that he can be that at all. If he is the number 5 ok, I can live with that. Anything higher, the Yanks have a worse rotation than last year.

On another rant...Adding Milton is not a fix all either. He is what he his and 4+ ERA pitcher who gives up a lot of HRS. I also heard on ESPN radio that the Yankees offered a 4 year deal to Pavano. I don't know a rotation of Mussina, Pavano, Milton, Wright, and Vasquez or Brown does not put a great feeling in me.

They're decent, but just not a significant upgrade.

I'm sorry but Tony Womack is not a good leadoff hitter. He has a career .319 OBP. He runs well and is a decent fielder but thats about it. He is a utility player, not an everyday starter.

He is a Blue Jays, Yankees, Red Sox fan, in that order. Not too often people root for teams in the same division, 2 of which are mortal enemies.

I'm not sure about the Womack signing. I'm a White Sox fan so keep that in mind, but what does Womack do for anybody? He has some speed but he's not even that fast anymore. They must really be desperate for a second basemen.

I don't really like either move. Wright had one good year, and pitched a lot better at home than on the road.

Womack has also really only had one good season. I don't think he's much of an upgrade over Cairo, at least the Cairo we had last year. Maybe Womack will play as good as last year, and Cairo will play like he has the rest of his career, maybe not. We'll see.

Milton won't be much of an upgrade either. At least he's a lefty though, something the Yankees need.

I just don't understand why the Yankees are signing these guys, and probably letting Lieber go. He pitched very well down the stretch, and was one of the few good moves they made the last few years.

Yeah, but that means you just shelled out $21 million for a number 5 pitcher. That's probably not going to phase George though. As much as I hate that the Braves lost Wright, no way in the world is he worth that much.
