Anything higher, the Yanks have a worse rotation than last year.
Yeah, but that means you just shelled out $21 million for a number 5 pitcher. That's probably not going to phase George though. As much as I hate that the Braves lost Wright, no way in the world is he worth that much.

Personally, I think he does it just to piss people off. Especially the way he refers to each of them as "my team"

There's no fan rulebook that says you can't root for 3 teams.

I will remain a fan of all 3 clubs and I don't see that changing.

To be fair, Milton is 29 and lefthanded (which you mentioned). He'll do a lot better in Yankee Stadium. His ERA will be around Pettitte's.

Wright is also 29 and has a live arm. He has always been a strikeout pitcher that doesn't give up homeruns (something Vasquez is not). If he can stay away from giving up hits - something he did a bit better this past season with Atlanta - he'll put up similar 2004 numbers.

As for Lieber. The Yanks had every intention of keeping him. Then the market changed and Lieber was eventually "worth" 8 million per. Lieber is NOT worth 8 million a year and not worth as much as Wright. Lieber's 35. Maybe he is worth 6 million per (1 million less than Wright). But 8 is over spending and Philly will end up regretting giving him so much cash.

I don't really like these moves. Wright is a decent pitcher but he doesn't strike me as someone that will play well in the high pressure enviroment of NY. I may eat those words but that's what I feel. Womack is a decent bat but Cairo would've been better at the leadoff position. Milton is a decent pitcher as well and at least he's a lefty. He'll probably do well in Yankee Stadium.

BTW I heard a rumour that Olerud might end up back in a Jays uniform to finish his career as a stopgap move before we can get a longterm 1B.

Re: Yanks sign Womack and Wright

I'm okay with both signings, moreso Womack. He is certainly equal to Cairo if not a better all around player. He's just as good defensively and has speed, which the Yanks desperately need. He can bat leadoff, and Jeter can go back to #2. Plus, they only gave him 2 yrs/4 million, so it's not like they broke the bank with him.

As for Wright, he has Leo Mazzone written all over him. I hope that's not the case, but one thing I don't worry about is if he can handle NY. The kid has balls, for sure. He was a rookie pitching in the WS in '97, and it didn't faze him one bit. Most of his problems the previous seasons were due to injury, so hopefully they are completely behind him. He compares favorably with Lieber, and is a hard thrower, which they need. We'll see.

Milton is okay. I think he'll do well in Yankee Stadium, which typically favors lefty pitchers for obvious reasons. But I'm not expecting a ton out of him, just hopefulyl a low 4's ERA. With the Yankee offense, he'll win a lot of games. And I'm not sold on Pavano either, he's not a hard thrower, and switching leagues is always risky (at least Milton pitched most of his career in the AL before last year). Not to mention he pitched in one of the best pitcher's parks in the league. And I still think they'll end up with Randy. Getting Felix Rodriguez, to me, is a sign that they will be willing to move Gordon in the deal, which they were hesitant to do before. I don't want to trade him, but for Randy I would, even if he is 41.

Womack is a utility player. He is Pokey Reese without the gold glove. His career .319 OBP isn't good enough to hit leadoff in the major leagues, especially in a lineup like the Yankees. Kenny Lofton's OBP was just as good last year and that was the best year of Womack's career.
