    Yanks sign Womack and Wright

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1940995

    Both signings are questionable.............

Womack is 35 years old and I have a feeling Wright is a one season wonder.

And of course I expect Big Unit to join my team later at the expense of Vasquez.

Damm the Yanks are friggin old.

    questionable moves.

I also feel wright will be a one year wonder/fail in NY. plus how will he pitch against a team like the red sox. If i'm not mistaken he was throughly beaten by the astros and the red sox are worse.

I also think cairo would have been a better fit then Womack, but at least now they have a true leadoff hitter. I just hope womack doesn't lose a step or 2 this offseason because speed is his game.

they should definetely re-sign cairo, olerud, hernandez, and lieber because they have the money to. Sierra is also a good guy to have pinch hit once in a while. Cairo can be a utility guy (play all infield positions). Olerud can start at 1b.

    Their rotation could be
    Mussina
    Hernandez
    Lieber
    Wright
    ???

Then they would probably try to unload brown and get a lefty such as milton. That doesn't look to bad. Plus they will have money to spare to use if they want to pick up another pitcher or bat.

edit: they could also pick up a 1st baseman such as carlos delgado if he asks for a reasonable price (if they have an extra money remaining, assuming they are able to terminate giambi's contract)

Wright should be decent but I don't think he'll get near to the level he was at last year with Leo Mazzone. It's a nice arm to fill the rotation, and espically if the Yanks land Randy Johnson you could do much worse than Jared Wright as a 5th starter.

Damn. The market for Wright was supposedly 3yrs/$15m, or so. Now the Yanks jump in and give him over $7m per.... Good luck to him, I guess. Always struck me as a little fragile mentally, it'll be interesting to see how he fares under the bright lights of NYC.

Re: Yanks sign Womack and Wright

This is what worries me about Wright.

                Home 2.56 W 6 L 3
                Away 4.04 W 9 L 5

Nearly exact amount of innings pitched both on the road and home. Considering that Turner Field is a pitcher's park and you can see why I worry that his ERA just benefitted from pitching at home.

The positive is that he gave up 8 homeruns at home, 3 on the road. That's pretty interesting and I can't explain it.

Either way, if he pitches at a 4.00 ERA type clip, I'd be satisfied with him. He'll end up winning a lot of games if he doesn't go over a 4 ERA.

Re: Yanks sign Womack and Wright

I am okay with the signing of Womack. I rather have a proven leadoff hitter than the number nine guy (Cairo). Womack batted .307 in 553 at bats and stole 26 bases in 31 trys. Cairo was .290 in 360 at bats.

As far as the pitching goes, I don't have a good feel for it. Lieber is close to signing a deal with the Phillies for three years, Hernandez probably would stay as a sixth guy or long relief. That leaves Mussina, Wright, and the Milton deal is really close, pending results on the physical. Thats three, then there is Brown and Vasquez which probably will go, or maybe I am hoping! With two openings that leaves the Yankee targets at Johnson, Radke, Pavano and I would take any of the A's trio pitchers, Just my opinion though.

With no arbitration offered to Olerud, Clark and Lee, that makes me think Tino is on his way back in town to play first!!

I think the Yankees were better off with Cairo and Lieber than Wright and Womack. Womack has peaked and has no place to go but down after last year and Wright's a one-year wonder type of guy and another arm for the Yanks that didn't even throw 200 innings last year. I do expect them to eventually land Johnson, but they have no shot at any of Oakland's starters and I'm not convinced Pavano wants to go there, despite the wishes of his relatives. They'll more than likely get Milton, which is more of a curse than a blessing.

And of course I expect Big Unit to join my team later at the expense of Vasquez.
My team? I thought you were a Jays fan?
