Yeah its sad to see him go but now we get to see what JP is really made of...its going to be interesting this offseason to see who he adds now that Delgado's contract is gone.Owner, Spear Interactive

"As far as I'm concerned, the Blue Jays butchered this up. They've been butchering it up with Carlos for a long, long time. I don't think (general manager) J.P. Ricciardi has ever wanted Carlos around, from the day he stepped off the plane to take over in Toronto."Cameras or guns, one of them is gonna shoot me to death.Comment

Re: Delgado's agent rips the Jays and JP
Yeah I feel so sorry for how the Jays mistreated poor "$76 million over the last four years" Delgado. Good riddance. I think the Jays will be a better team without one player taking up 40% of the payroll. JP is probably ecstatic that for the first time since he's been GM, he actually has some room on the budget to do things. I'm hoping that they are able to convince Koskie to come here and that they deal Hinske or turn him into a 1B or something.Comment

Re: Delgado's agent rips the Jays and JP
Considering that Delgado is heading into the "twilight" of his career, I'm not surprised.
Historically, 1B with great OBP, high averages, and power fall off dramatically after their peak years.
Some can ready their course a bit (ie: Frank Thomas), but most just continue to hit a slide (ie: Jason Giambi).Last edited by CMH; 12-08-2004, 09:35 AM."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Delgado's agent rips the Jays and JP
Delgado's no Giambi. The thing that may slow down his production is his ailing knees. His production in the 2nd half last year was as good or better then anytime in his entire career and if it wasn't for injuries he'd have another 100 RBI season. I think that Delgado will play 1B for a couple or so years and then become a fulltime DH.
As for what Sloane said, I agree 100%. Look I know JP doesn't like Delgado that much but the man made it so painfully obvious. Back in the day if Pat Gillick or even Gord Ash wouldn't make it so damn obvious that they want someone to go. The closest thing to this situation was when Dave Winfield left Toronto but it was more like "we think you're a great playing Dave but we can't afford you and you don't fit our plans". They didn't go "oh we want him to test the free agent market", "Oh its not likely we'll sign him cuz he'll want big money".
Delgado's been one of the very few pro athletes in Toronto that "Gasp!" likes playing here.
JP may have bitten off more then he can chew as the plan was the Jays would go after Koskie if he wasn't offered arbitration by the Twins. Well the Twinkies offered arbitration. The only FA that the Jays are willing to pick up who's been offered arbitration is Matt Clement. I doubt the Jays go after Koskie now.
Anyways i'm going to miss Delgado here in Toronto but i'll wish him all the luck in the world.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Delgado's agent rips the Jays and JP
With each passing day I'm losing more faith in JP.
This Delgado situation got real messy and I sure hope JP wasn't the one that leaked out Delgado didn't want to waive his no trade clause to the media that made Delgado look like the bad guy.
This is the moment JP has been waiting for because Delgado no longer takes up 40% of the payroll. With the payroll set at 52 mil he has around 15 mil to play with, too bad the Jays have too many holes to fill.
The Jays need a starter, a left handed reliver, and 2 power bats. You ain't going to get all of that for 15 mil.
At this point I'm willing to give up a 2nd round pick to get either Clement or Koskie.
I would prefer Koskie because we have a greater need for offence. But I have no idea where the offence will come from. Even with Delgado last season the Jays were one of the lowest scoring teams in the AL. It's foolish to think Cat, Wells, Rios, and Hinske will all bounce back and put up numbers.
What makes it worse is that the Jays don't have a top flight power hitting prospect.
The season hasn't even started yet and I'm almost ready to throw up the white flag.Comment
