Not sure what to make of this. I really don't like Kent at all, but the Dodgers desperately needed another bat (or 2, or 3...) in their lineup.

I wonder if this signing has an impact on whether they resign Beltre, though ultimately I think that will come down to how much money the Yanks or whoever else throws at him.

i don't think beltre will go the yanks unless he is willing to move to 1st or second base though i would imagine this will limit how much money the dodgers can offer beltre.
Just wait till Arsenal moves into Emirates Stadium.

The Dodgers signing Kent actually works against Beltre, if his contract demands are too high or unreasonable the Dodgers will move Kent to 3B (they still have Alex Cora to play 2B). Signing Beltre back is not the priority it was 24 hours ago, the Dodgers now have a few options with Kent and also Alex Cora who can play 3B as well, the Dodgers also expect to meet with Corey Koskie, who will come at a much lower price than Beltre. The Dodgers need to rebuild their Starting Rotation, Jose Lima and Hideo Nomo are gone, Odalis Perez may not be back, which leaves the Dodgers with only Jeff Weaver, Brad Penny and Kaz Ishii in their rotation. Signing Beltre back to a huge contract will handcuff the Dodgers as they expect to meet with Russ Ortiz and Matt Clement, and thanks to the Kris Benson signing neither of these two expect to come cheap. Beltre may be done in L.A..

i dont really have a problem with that, if his asking price is too high. he was a hot prospect years ago, and pretty much sucked it up until last year (his contract year, what a coincidence). i'd feel nervous about giving him a monster contract, which some team will no doubt do.

Kent is a good signing for the Dodgers. They still need to resign Beltre. He finally figured out how to hit well in the 1st half of the season which has always been his problem.

I don't like the signing of Kent mostly cause from the stories I've heard of him it seems like he might screw up the team chemestry, which to me seemed like the strongest point of this team last year. So I guess personally I'd prefer to see them spend that money else where. I'd love to see them make a run at Matt Clement and I think they have to bring back Beltre I know we're gonna have to end up breaking the bank to keep him, but last year he was such a critical part of their success I can't see them being better than .500 without him.
