Las Vegas Marlins? it's possible
You know I really hate Jeffrey Loria. This is stupid, first he kills the Expos and now he's thinking of going to Vegas. Actually it looks like a ploy to speed up negotiations for a new stadium in Miami but as long as Jeb Bush is governor it's not going to happen.

Re: Las Vegas Marlins? it's possible
yeah i touched on this in another thread. i wonder if its just a ploy to get the city of Miami and its taxpayers to go overboard on helping them construct a new stadium. no sports team should be in Vegas though because it would be a conflict of interest IMO.President of the Devils Den

Re: Las Vegas Marlins? it's possible
My point of views here:
1. It's the city of Miami and the state of Florida's fault. The Marlins need a new domed/retractable roof stadium because of the weather concerns there. the city of Miami and the state of FLorida for that matter is a football city/state. If this were the Dolphins...it already would have been done. The Marlins had every reason to go elsewhere to talk. They've given Dade County and the state plenty of time to start developing finaincials on it...but they decide to keep putting it off or not getting the backing.
2. From what I have read in reports...MLB will allow the Marlins to move to Vegas under one condition...that all Marlin (or whatever they will be called.....COME ON SNAKEEYES!!!!) games be taken off the board. That way they can not be bet on...the conflict of interest becomes non-existant. UNLV games are not allowed to be bet upon.
I seriously hope Vegas does get a few sports teams...it deserves them. One of the fastest growing areas in the US and they have a lot of transports there that love sports. I think it would be the perfect fit....if you have a clause stating that their games are off the board and not allowed to be wagered on.Comment

Re: Las Vegas Marlins? it's possible
Vegas has already had a pro team... Anyone remember the Runnin Rebel teams of the late 80s-early 90s? I went to a game there once, in 1989, and that was pro atmosphere all the way, with the shark hanging from the rafters, sign saying "Welcome to Tark's Shark Tank", the fireworks during introductions...Comment

Re: Las Vegas Marlins? it's possible
I guess you can't compare college athletic "failures" to anticipcated Pro experience, because UNLV men's bball games are RARELY full. Also there AAA baseball team has OK attendance. Maybe real "pro" teams will bring in the fans. Fans of opposing teams too. Its VEGAS!Comment

If they move to Vegas they can be renamed the Las Vegas BigSlots. What does a Marlin have to do with Vegas anyway? heheComment
