Looks like we got Tyler Deadwood tonight. Walk the world and you're eventually gonna pay for it, even with the wind blowing in at Wrigley.

Vince Velasquez loads the bases with no outs and then gets 3 straight strikeouts to get out of it. 9 K's through 4.

Gleyber hits another. The power wasn't supposed to come this quickly.

              I'll call La Stella.

No clue what Almora was doing there.

Bubba Watson with the worst rendition of Take Me Out To The Ballgame this side of Ditka. Just a really bad effort.

I'm sorry...the Cubs have to be better. This team is playing so far below their talent level it's not even funny. I know they kicked into gear last year, but there really is no reason for them to be scuffling this bad.

Yup. I've been banging this gong for about 3 weeks. Win 1 game, lose 1 game. Win 5 games, lose 5 games. 0-for-10 tonight w/RISP...Chatwood can't hit the broad side of a barn...same old song and dance. Consistency isn't a thing with this team as their 2 settings are 1927 Yankees and 1899 Cleveland Spiders.

If McCarthy could pitch again the Phillies every game he'd win the Cy Young...great win tonight.

They're honestly just not all that great. Good teams are consistent and this team is the epitome of inconsistent. All the talent in the world doesn't matter if they can't put it together game to game or week to week.

SP has just been so inconsistent. Offense with RISP is annoying but seems something like every team gripes about Offense has been fine. Still in much better shape than last year.

Not being able to put it together with all the talent in the world probably points a big, fat finger in Joe Maddon's direction. Not like he's going anywhere anytime soon, unless he decides to retire and become a professional wine taster or something.

At the same time, the front office knows it has assembled a lot of feast/famine players. Zobrist, Almora, and Lester are pretty steady. Everyone else is really streaky. The problem is what happens when a good chunk of the team doesn't get hot at the right time? Then we have the 2015 NLCS or the 2017 NLCS. When they do (and get a little lucky) we have 2016.

But each time the Cubs bat 30% worse with RISP, they lose X more games than they should and make their margin of error Y% smaller. At some point, all these wasted opportunities are gonna catch up to this team. Looking at this division, there is just no reason for the Cubs not to be in front by about 3-5 games based on their roster. With any modicum of consistency, that is.

Angel Hernandez was ridiculous in the ninth inning tonight.

The first pitch on the outside was debatable, but it was "between the knees" and some umpires call based on that if it's close enough. You call that a ball, fine.

The second pitch was clearly in the strike zone, and I mean the entire ball. The problem was it wasn't between the catcher's knees. So he doesn't call that a strike either, though? You gotta give one of those pitches!

Personally, I'd prefer the second pitch if anything else. I don't know if he missed that first pitch or not, so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt, much as I hate him. But botch that second one and throw out Counsell for your incompetence? Ugh.

Thankfully it didn't hurt the Brew Crew tonight. They're on a roll.
