Poor, Poor Expos, er Nationals..
they may only spend one year in DC.. apparently the city counsel passed an order today where half of the new stadium must come from private funds.. this may throw a wrench in the plans for the Nationals to stay & may cause MLB to locate a new home for 2006.. stay tunedTags: None -
Re: Poor, Poor Expos, er Nationals..
Sheesh they might as well just fold the club or get a really rich owner who doesn't mind paying for a stadium. If they can't do the latter then just end the misery for this franchise and kill it. This dog and pony show has gone on for far too long and I don't want other cities to have to suffer.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Poor, Poor Expos, er Nationals..
There was a big article in SI this week talking about the possibility of there being a professional sports team in Las Vegas. People have been pushing hard for a team to come there and they even sent some reps to the winter meeting in Anahiem to try and sway some people. Maybe this is the break they need to get a team there.Comment

Re: Poor, Poor Expos, er Nationals..
Washington D.C. should not pay out that type of money for a stadium. I make military trips to D.C. every year, and there are some part of the city that could use $530 million dollars(schools, Libraries). It MLB team they should finance the stadium. I say let them leave and find a sucker city that will finance them a stadium.Comment

$530 million? I thought it was more like $1.5 billion including the infrastructure upgrades. I agree with you though. I look at Woody Johnson of the Jets willing to pay for an $800 million stadium in Manhattan and George Steinbrenner willing to pay about $730 million for a new Yankee Stadium. These other teams could pay, but it's easier to have the city pay for it. I do, however, disagree with the city of Washington agreeing to something and then changing it at the last minute.Comment
